I am cross shopping a 14 SHO vs 14 Charger RT, with the following options:

14 SHO: 401a pkg, Performance pkg and NAV
Total MSRP: 45k

http://www.ford.com/...aurus/trim/sho/

14 Charger RT: Road and Track pkg, Driver confidence group, Super Track Pack and NAV
Total MSRP: 37K

http://www.dodge.com...013/charger/rt/

Straight line performance they are both very close 0-60 5.2-5.4 1/4mph 13.7, on the track automotive reviews indicate the SHO seems to have the edge.

Personal PROS/CONS:

SHO:
AWD
Better track performer
Better MPG

Charger RT:
Cheaper
Better looking
More interior room

Thoughts?

The only upside I could see on getting the charger, is it has a V8. There's nothing like the sound of a powerful V8. The charger's biggest down fall is it's a dodge. Poor quality and horrible resale, there's a reason it's cheaper.

My friends has the charger, very nice car and he did a lot of mods to it, very fast. I don't know if your a person that likes performance mods but if I were you, I would save the 8k by getting the charger, get a tune, headers, intake and exhaust. It would put you past the performance of the ford and u should have some money leftover

We have a ton of Chargers and Durangos at work that take a beating everyday and they seem to hold up pretty well. My partners Charger 3.6 V6 with 60k ran for 3 months on 2 quarts of oil without any issues or problems because on the last oil change the mechanic never filled the oil to the proper level. My coworkers Durango ran for 125kmiles without a transmission fluid change before he had an issue because the previous coworker never followed the maintenance schedule. We are responsible to maintain our own vehicles and don't have a fleet manager.

My 13 Durango RT fully loaded with the 5.7 and am very happy with it so far. Got it the same time my brother-in-law got his Ranger Rover Sport and so far he has seen two trips to the dealer for issues and I have had none.

My 5.7 on my D sounds great and I know the SHO has no sound, its definitely a sleeper.

I would go w/ the Ford SHO...I agree that Dodge is not a very good brand (in my opinion) and I have sworn off ever owning one again since my 1977 Dodge Aspen. Worst car I ever owned.

Rgr. I have a 10 Shelby GT500 with 540 RWHP and a 13 Durango RT 5.7 Hemi with a CAI for now, so I guess I am a performance guy......lol. That SHO with a tune will run low 12's. I keep going back and forth between both of them.

If your looking to spend that, shop around for a 2013 SRT8!!! I have seen guys getting them in the 30's or low 40's.

Charger. I can't say I really ever liked anything from Ford.

:iagree:and the additional fact that the Charger body style is soooo old.

being a Ford fan, Id obviously go for a sho. The new one looks real good and has power somewhat similar to an v8. Rather have a 365hp car on premium than a v8 on mid grade or premium.

SHO with Livernois tunes with Corsa or Borla exhaust.

I'm going to be different and say why not consider a used Mercedes. Cars that were $120,000 five years ago are in the price range of what you're currently considering and below. You could get so much more car for your money. It's not that there is anything wrong with them like at 50,000 miles they die, it's just what people are willing to pay for them. They are very good cars and I'm not just saying that because my brother is tech at a Benz dealer. He does all of the state inspections on used cars that the dealership buys to re-sell so he's seen it all more or less when it comes to used Mercedes. I've serviced a lot of them and they are solid cars. I'm of the opinion that Benz is ahead of most other manufactures in terms of technology and innovation.

Here's just a few examples of many:

Mercedes-Benz : S-Class REARVIEW CAM in Mercedes-Benz | eBay Motors

Mercedes-Benz : C-Class C63 AMG in Mercedes-Benz | eBay Motors

If you're set on the two cars you brought up originally then just disregard my post all together. The only reason I even bring up Mercedes is because I've found that a lot of people don't realize how affordable they are after they're a few years old.

They are both nice cars, my choice would be the charger. I've had 2 third gen Hemi cars and trucks and the power is great, add in the new cylinder cut off you can get close to 30 mpg with a 5.7 charger. From my understanding the Charger/challenger/ 300 platform is an old Mercedes design hold over from their involvement with Chrysler pre Fiat days. For resale as long as you get a Hemi your set, the values stay up. We bought a 13 charger base R/T with the only real option being a sunroof and back up camera and the price was negotiated out under 30 grand, no trade in.

A buddy of mine has a SHO it's a very nice car, plenty of power and the awd is a nice benefit. I was not a fan of the high center council and the crazy price for a Taurus.

I'd go with the Ford mainly because I'm a ford guy and plus it is quite the sleeper for what it is. You do already have a Shelby for special occasions so why not have another Ford performance car for daily driving? It's up to you but as you can see with the videos posted above they can make quite a bit of power and speed with just a tune and intake.

OMG I am sooooo not a fan of Dodge OR Ford but I would pick the SHO soooooooo fast over the Charger. The SHO is so much better looking to me and the performance is supposed to be better. Arent all SHO's AWD? If so it is a NO BRAINER SHO.

I'm with you, I would love a german super car, but the repair bill's would kill me. My best friends dad had a 2001 E55 and the car was an absolute joy to drive, but the repair bill's were outrageous.
