Hey all,

I'm considering setting up a little side hussle to help with my rainy day fund. I've been researching the market in my area and am astounded at the prices some of these 'detailers' are offering.

One guy here offers a full 'wash and wax' for $ 20 and says he can do it in 15-20 minutes! I can't even get my wheels / wells done that fast.
That's just one guy, and folks like this are a dime a dozen!

Amazing how little value some folks give themselves!

I would call and ask how his process is done. I think that would be funny to hear.

Call him and ask, I am really curios. There is no way he can do a good job. My best guess is pressure washer, and shooting on a foam of wash n wax soap and then rinse off, no drying. Sprays some harsh chemicals on jamps, wheels, tires and wipes with towel without rinsing.

Maybe it's $19.95 per side? :dunno:

I takes me about 10-15 mins just to set up my gear once I get to a job...

I takes me 30 mins to do 4 wheels, maybe he just uses Megs Waterless Wash and Wax Anywhere...................lol

EXACTLY add up the BUSINESS COST- Supplies, electric, phone, water, insurance etc..... and the are making LESS THEN MINIMAL WAGE AT THOSE RATES...NowI can see as a SPECIAL OFFER, but NOT DAY TO DAY. a container of wax (small) cost $10.00 GET REAL.
I would question the Products & teachniques as well as equipment.

Why dont you get a doner car and pay the $20 to watch what he does. Then let us know, because I'm curious as well. Washing my car takes me 1-2 hours but im pretty anal with it...

Sounds like a deal. Maybe he can do my truck.

Remember those are Canadian dollars.

I'm not knocking the guy at all. More power to him if that's what works for him.

I'm just appalled someone would feel they are worth so little! Plus he is mobile & has to factor in fuel which at $ 1.33/liter ain't cheap!

That is how much coworkers pay at our business park.

3 guys show up with scrub sticks and go to town on the cars. High volume quick work.

I wold understand that price if it was a business job site. High volume cars, 1 setup, and able to drive to one spot for a few hours to save fuel cost. Paydays for big buildings would be the best day to offer that service in constant rotation of cars.

I couldn't see that price for single jobs.

$20 gets his foot in the door, the upsells take him over the top.

Good business angle, IMO. Maybe a reverse test spot...free of charge.:laughing::laughing:

you cant be insured and pay for your stuff you using for that .Wash and wax 50.00 min and thats them bring to my shop to go to them its 100.00 you can see I dont like to go to them. unload and reload and clean up there driveway.Driveways here in se fl are real nice you cant mess them up.

You know that there are car wash products that are called "wash and wax" right, maybe that is what he means... Either that or his wax is just a microfiber soaked in QD that he only changes/refreshes every week lol

I may have to get a friends beater and hire him to see what is actually offered. Again, not knocking the guy, but I feel anyone is more valuable than that!

Seems it may just be less hassle to keep my detailing bug to friends and family....

We have similar people here in VA.Charging less than what this person does. 12.00 -20.00 wash and wax.And many people think they have gotten a quality job from these hacks. If I seem bitter I recently had to go behind one of these people and redo my elderly neighbors car. After several hours work it is acceptable I donated my my time and educated her on why she should never return there or similar place again.Hoping that she tells other's of her experience. Maybe I will gain my first customers from all this.

I value all of the opinions here, but must play devils advocate on this issue.

We all know that 15 minutes is ludicrous and misleading, but there is a market for those seeking these service providers.

Also, marketing materials such as custom post cards, rack cards, brochures, and business cards cost money and time, to purchase and deliver, to potential clients; and offer little to no return on investment.

There are those go-getters that rather spend time, energy, and expense in the pursuit of building a customer base (a learning experience if you will), rather than sitting back and hoping for the rewards.

Forum members crazOboy, Rav777, DugDug and countless others on this 52,699 thread, 717,911 post grouping of forums, are perfect examples of this go-gettter mentality. They went thru the process when there were those telling them their prices were too low and that they were offering too many services for their effort. Now it would seem that they have got things dialed in and have a good customer base with excellent referrals.

Just something to think about.
