1949 T28 aluminum training plane detailed

Pretty much just needed to have to bolt holes available to install the mounts and cradles. Unlike today where special electronics are involved. But it the Airforce anyway, so you would have make sure you installed the fighter plane mode cup holder right next to the weapons control module.lol

True, the Air Force really knows how to live. I'm amazed the other branches haven't figured it out yet.

I was in the navy so I know where that quality of life/money goes; straight up the chain of command.

My son is in the Navy and I spent 6 days on his USS Ronald Reagan. Unless your an officer your living quarters are nasty and disgusting.

The Navy builds ships, the Army buys tanks, the marines....well they're the marines. The Air Force builds dormitories and golf courses. Age old saying, the Air Force builds a golf course and then puts a base around it. Of course it's not true, but exaggerations start somewhere. Not trying to turn this thread into a recruiting poster.

The problem with the T-28 as a fighter is that it came into service at the same time as the F-86. The same reason the P-51 (P-pursuit), the power horse of WW II, became obsolete within a few years of being introduced. The jet age was upon us! That is the reason the US used them for COIN (COunter Insurgency) and training operations. They would not have lasted long in a fight against a MiG 15

AHHHHHH....

You would be surprised at the number of non jet fighters that were used in the Korean War... And with great success...

P51's,

F4U's

F-82 and P-82

F7F

And others...

Also a number of them were still used up until the end of the Vietnam war...

Correct, but not in their traditional fighter roles. They tried initially, but they did not fair well against jet fighters. The US brought in the F-86, which took over the air to air role.

Just did a little more research on it since my memory is fading a bit on details. Propeller driven aircraft did very well in the first month of the Korean War, shooting down 20 enemy fighters. The north brought in the MiG 15s and propeller driven aircraft did not score another air-to-air victory for three years.

Maybe you would know- but didn't the p-51 and other high performance propeller aircraft actually outperform the early WWII era German jets? It was my understanding that while the jets were faster, their shorter range and poor maneuverability meant that a skilled P-51 was something for a German jet pilot to be afraid of. (Obviously jets got better as time went on).

Also, only two US aces during Korea scored kills in anything other than an F-86. One in the F4U and the other, Major Boots Blesse, had kills in the P-51, F-80, and F-86.

Many people believe/predict that the German jet fighters would have been the turning point of WWII, but they were too little to late. Thankfully they were never able to produce many and put them into action.

The F-86 was the main Jet Fighter of the Korean War once they brought it in..

And it was still used early on in the Vietnam war also..

Yeah, true most of the Prop aircraft were used for air to ground missions.

However they were still fast enough to hold their own against the earlier Jet fighters...

It wasn't really until the Vietnam War that things really came around with the Jet Fighters though..

This is one awesome project! Nice work on it, looks great polished up.

WOW nice!!! Do the bolts ruin the pads though? I would think that they would tear them up after a while.

Very cool project, enjoyed looking at the pics....and got a history lesson at the same time. :xyxthumbs:
