I wish I had 8-9 helpers! haha. That car looks great now. I have a question, which wool pad and backing plate is Mike using on the rotary? I like how it flexes and follows the contours, my buff and shine stuff doesnt do that.

Ha ha... yeah it's a lot more fun as well as faster when you have a team of guys all working at the same time. I really like doing these types of projects with a team of guys, both seasoned pros and newbies but there's also a lot to be said for knocking them out all by yourself.

We don't have the luxury of time when doing these types of projects on a weeknight and starting after everyone gets off a full day's work...

The wool pad is the same one we took to Nebraska to wetsand and then buff out the 1969 AMC AMX here,

In this picture I'm using the Meguiar's Solo Flexible Backing Plate, a very good backing plate for the rotary buffer with both wool or foam pads.

Flexible backing plates are the only way to go in my opinion...

Make sure these are the 41-125A pads, note the letter A at the end of the part number.


Eric Dunn sent me a few of these a while back for my rotary buffer class and I really like them but at this time we don't stock them. I asked Jason if we could bring them in and he said yes, not sure of an ETA though.

These pads buff great and are easy to clean and easy to control when doing heavy correction work. Short fiber pads might be more aggressive on paper, (technically speaking), but longer fiber pads are much easier to control and buff with PLUS much easier to clean with both a spur and a pad washer.

Since working clean is vitally important to get low swirl results when compounding with a rotary buffer having a pad you can easily clean is important.

Also, these are the perfect size for the lightweight, compact Flex PE14 and thus the reason I asked the sponsor for this project to send some out for this project.

I see, thanks Mike. I have been using the black lambswool pads from Norton for the past few years, and really like them. (I bought 30 of them at once when I heard they weren't being made anymore). I have a few left, and have been experimenting with different stuff recently, from B&S, and Meguiars.

I'm looking for pads that lint very little from the get go, and offer a medium cut, for mostly polishing on fresh paint.

Can I order the pads from LC directly?

These pads lint until you break them in, I use a Lake Country Pad Washer to de-lint all my wool pads when they are brand new, it really helps a lot. Cuts down on the Wool Dust Bunny's to have to clean up off the floor.

Don't know about ordering direct from LC...
