I had the pleasure to work on this cool pony today! A customer brought me his 1965 Mustang Fastback. This car is modified. Power rack and pinion steering, tubular upper/lower control arms, power Wilwood disc brakes on all 4 corners, A/C, digital dash, killer stereo, Pro-car seats, nice wheels (now, LOL), and a built 302: mild cam, headers, aluminum intake, Holley carb, etc, etc. Sounds great! Now it looks as good as it sounds!
The car was repainted with base/clear. It had plenty of paint on it from my readings. The paint was severely swirled all over. It also had some deeper sanding marks in it that I was not able to correct with the level of paint correction that was agreed upon.

I used UWW for the initial ‘wash’. Ultima Waterless Wash Plus+ Concentrate, concentrated waterless auto wash, waterless car wash

I then decontaminated the paint with the Nanoskin Autoscrub Speedy prep fine grade sponge. Nanoskin Autoscrub Speedy Prep Sponge

My test spot showed me that this paint liked Pinnacle advanced compound, however it loved M101. Flex 3401 on speeds 4-5. Pads were an orange hydrotech and a green hex logic.

Meguiars M101 Foam Cut Compound, meguiars compound, m101 compound, meguiars foam cut compound
Flex XC 3401, FLEX Orbital Polisher,flex XC 3401 VRG dual-action polisher,flex XC3401VRG,Dual Action polisher,FLEX buffer
Lake Country Hydo-Tech Foam Pads, hydrotech polishing pads, pads for water-based polishes, buffing pads

Paint leveled out nicely and finished down surprisingly well! The story is in the ‘after’ photos.
LSP was Blackfire Midnight sun applied via Griot’s 6” with a red Lake Country smart waxing pad.

The wheels/rims were very much oxidized and had some scratching/swirling. I used HD metal polish and a combination of elbow grease and my M7 pneumatic rotary with some small pads.

Tires were treated with Blackfire Total Eclipse tire gel.

Windows were cleaned with HD glass.

Interior was vacuumed via Metro vacuum. The seats, dash, and door panels had Adam’s Total Interior Detailer used on them.

The billet aluminum bits under the hood were polished with HD metal.

Beautiful!!! And incredible work too!!

Thank you!

Now that's a Ford Mustang!

Nice work, nice photography and write-up.

:xyxthumbs:

Thanks Mike!!! The car sounds great. Just 'enough' cam. Great sounding exhaust. I was also fortunate that the owner asked if I wanted to drive it before I started. Indeed I did! It drives great. The suspension setup it perfect, and it has plenty of power. And most important down here: the A/C blows cold...a great cruiser!

First off you did a stunning job on the Mustang there! IMO the 65' fastback is the greatest Stang ever made, the size and style is 2nd to none!!

I had that style wheel on my 87' GN back in 1997 and they are NOT clearcoated, so they are a b!itch to take care of, you must always polish them after ever wash or they start to become dull and/or stain and from the looks of it, the owner didn't make the commitment to do this.

I hope the owner realizes what he has there and takes better care of the car or atleast gets in on a maintainence program with you. BTW, could detail that center console out of it too, LOL!

Excellent job on the mustang. That yellow is popping.

Awesome work Scott on a beautiful Mustang!
You are easily establishing yourself as the premiere detailer in SW FL.

Thanks everyone!

Klasse: they were beat. It definitely took some time to bring them back. I would have loved to have tried a coating on them!

Thanks Guz! It is bright!! Fo sho!

Appreciate that Buddy!!! I am the Sizzler!

Wow! Amazing job Sizzle Chest! That car looks amazing.

^^^I sure am Paulie! LOL!!!! I'm good with the calves, thighs...and I can rebuild those starter motors. LMAO

Nice car & amazing results Sizzle, there is a quote:
"When you are on the top the only way is down" I hope it's not about your detailing

What interests me here is to what music your customer listens with this sound system
and what is engine specs, I see 1965 (63A) 2 door Fastback standard bucket were built 71,303 Mustangs & Fastback luxury (63B) 5,776 built & engines wary from 100 to 300HP.
Interesting if you know more about it all, also what repainted Yellow is this: Sunlight or Phoenician? It looks like Sunlight.

I read about it here: 1965 Ford Mustang specsFORD CLASSICS

Very nice job Scott. I have the same Torque Thrusts on my 67 Nova. I may have to give HD Metal a try on them.

Well done!

Super job on the documentation also.

Bill

Thanks everyone!!!

Shark: The engine is a modified 302 cubic inch. Aluminum heads, intake manifold, Holley carburetor, custom exhaust and an aftermarket camshaft. The engine produces around 400HP now.

The color is NOT a factory color. It has been repainted and it is not a Ford color, however I do not know what exact color it is.

LOL @ your quote! I hope this is not about my detailing either!

Pats: I am really liking the HD line up of products. Good stuff. Metal worked very well. PM me some pics of your Nova!

Now that's really cool, I see 302 Cleveland was made by Ford Australia & produced only 250HP while 302 Boss at 372HP & now this is 400HP Mustang. Must be loud.

^^^It sounds great!!! This is a 'Windsor' based motor. It has smaller cylinder heads and valves than the Cleveland and Boss motors do.

It runs nice!
