1967 Lincoln Continental Single Stage Paint- Extreme Makeover

My buddy Matt's Dad bought this off the showroom floor and Matt says this was the last Continental to roll of the assembly line in 1967. It has 30,000 original miles and everything from the inside out including the convertible top and the paint is all original.

Matt just had this car shipped into Stuart, Florida and my friend Mike Beddel recommended he bring Autogeek his classic Continental to have it detailed.

How-To capture swirls, scratches, etchings and other surface defects with your camera

In the below picture I'm using my finger to give the camera something to focus on so when I turn the flash on I can capture the swirls since the Sun was not out at the time I took these pictures. You can see by the water beads his car is in need of polishing and waxing.

Here's my camera lighting up the paint....

We moved this classic Continental into our studio for safe-keeping until this weekend.

We're also going to do and extreme makeover to the interior as you can see it's pretty grimey....

If you look closely at the area below the pull handle you can see a small area that I cleaned to show how much room there is for improvement...

Marvelous car, sure it's beaten being original. This will be a Challenging Extreme Makeover, can't wait to see the outcome!

Thanks for sharing,

Kind Regards.

Mike, used the Dr. Colorchip this weekend on a clients car, the write up is in show and shine. Took me over and hour to get most of the road rash touched up, and I did it in layers. What I mean by that is that there were so many small chips that I had to do about 50%, then go back and do more until I was down to them all being touched up. My eye could not see all of them as I was working on them.
Anyway, following the instructions, from about 6 feet back, the bumper looks new. I will be ordering more of this in the future, a great way to take care of the chips.

HUMP

Nice write-up and nice work!

Lots of chips makes it more tedious.... tackling it in layers or waves sounds like a good approach.

That's the goal....

I agree. And it's as simple as 1, 2, 3

Awesome Lincoln! That sucker is so big, the front and back bumpers are in different zip codes!

Love the suicide doors on them too! Cant wait to see what you do with her!

I will be waiting to see the final results. Happy detailing :dblthumb2:

That's funny.... but you're right. It really sinks in just how big this car is when you stand next to the trunk or hood and try to figure out how and where you're going to stand to reach out to the middle sections.

This might end up being the car we use for teaching how to use the Rupes System.

:)

A four-door convertible? Didn't know there was such a thing. Awesome. Looking forward to the detail.

happy happy joy joy!!! heaven on earth how sweet it is ralphy boy!!!

Can't hardly wait to see this beautiful car detailed. I had a 1964 Continental that I loved but had to send it to the crusher after it was vandalized beyond repair, by teenagers, while in storage.

I hope you will post the full video of the transformation!

Thanks, Gary

Talk about major 'real estate'!

I had forgotten how big those suckers were, but then gas WAS only 30¢ a gallon (LOL).

Hi Gary,

Both Nick and I will be taking pictures of all the cars showing before, during and after.

Making the time to go through them, resize them, upload and insert them and then adding some words is so time consuming.... it's very important so I will do my best.

We're starting out by rubbing this dry, brittle paint down with the #7 Show Car Glaze and then letting the oils soak in before we do any paint correction. Just like I share in this article,

Usually, restoring the beauty of such classics cannot be measured in hours, at least not by one person. Time passes, and it's weeks, months, turning to years. What's referred to as a "Work in Progress".

I'm suspecting Mike that your old, highly trusted "paint quencher" standard, Meg's #7 might be seeing some play time? (Ahh, I was right, just read your post above, see I'm-we're learning!)

Will be watching this one. Can you imagine what the costs would be, to manufacture such a car today, that isn't all plastic? They sure don't make em like this anymore

Mike, Thanks for the reply. Can't wait to see the pictures!

Used to think I couldn't live without #7 and #26 Yellow Wax.
