So here is a 68 Aston Martin DB6 , this car came in a few months ago and it had an unfortunate run in with some children at play ..The car received damage to the the hood and fenders , i believe there was a basketball involved ...( kids will be kids ).. a couple of months go buy and the owner decided that he wants to sell it so we convinced him to repaint the whole thing..

11 hours in the booth , an all day affair and presto !!! i lost like two pounds i sweated so much ..lol ...

On a side note ..Yes the color looks different inside the booth than being in the sun which shows you the dramatic difference between compact florescent and natural sunlight ..which is why you should always have both spectrum's of light in your work area..

Please tell us more about the paint you applied, is it an original paint code color for this car? What about door jambs, under hood, etc? Same color I presume?

I once had my very first new car I ever owned repainted, was hit in an accident in '78, it was a 1976 Camaro in Silver. But the original Silver looked more like a plain jane grey.

The master painter used the same paint, but doped it, one 4oz can of Coarse Silver Metallic to 4 qts of Dupont Lucite Laquer. Then cut, and sprayed, about 17 coats of paint in all, lots of clear Laquer on top.

The paint shimmered, and in different light, the paint took on different shades and hues of that silver. Like a foot deep the paint looked when he got done, the paint job cost me less than $400 at the time. Today it would probably cost me $4,000 or more.

Yes its an original color code but it has been revised to work with solvent base and a urethane clear coat .. I applied three coats of base then baked the car for about an hour then sanded the entire car with 1000 grit sand paper on a soft interface hand pad , followed by a really good tacking .. after that i applied three more coats of base and two coats of clear coat ...
Sounds like your car must of looked really nice .. Silver has so many different variances to it its astonishing .. From super fine to so coarse it looks like boat paint ..

And lacquer finishes are a thing of the past ... I think that its illegal to spray and sell lacquer paint in the US .. but i will agree that it leaves a fantastic deep finish especially when there's 17 coats on it.. too bad you don't have any pics i would of liked to see it..

I used standox paint line for the finish and clear coat .. and the only place the jambs needed to be painted was in the trunk , the doorjambs are covered by metal flashing hiding pretty much all of the jambs , and the under hood was untouched , it wasn't a full resto just a fix and freshening of the paint otherwise the answer would be everything was painted like i usually do

i will give this ride a cut and buff within the next week or two so ill have more pics of it all done with all the trim and chrome on

Wow, now that's a beautiful car. Bet the owner has a change of heart and doesn't sell it. I know wouldn't. Looking forward to the updates!
 
You owe me a new set of underwear! I need to visit the shop some time and see some of these beauties you keep posting.
 
so im going to be starting the cut and buff on this beast tomorrow so ill be taking some pics .....stayed tuned!!

Whatta a car and gorgeous work. Wouldn't surprise me if the owner changes his mind and decides to keep the car after your finished with it.

thank you .. ive been working on it for the past few days on and off ..Its busy in the shop and my time hes been stretched across the board so i haven't posted any pics but ill have some up in the next few days ...:xyxthumbs:
