1968 MGB GT - All original single stage paint

This car is as though it were stored in a Time Capsule.

I did a Test Spot on the hood.

Clay removed blackness. The section I clayed changed to a lighter, brighter yellow.

Test Spot removed 99.9% of the swirls and scratches - this was using the lowly PC.

Stay tuned...

And best of all....

No stupid pebble textured plastic trim to have to cover and protect.

Instead -classic cars like this have trim and molding made from,

  • Chrome
  • Stainless Steel
  • Aluminum
  • Nickel

And instead of covering it up ---- you run your buffing pad OVER IT and make is shiny!

Starting on the old MGB GT at 8:00am - Really looking forward to working on some REAL paint.

Re: 1968 MGBT - All original single stage paint

I haven't worked on an old original car in a long time. Sure would like to get my hands on one.

Re: 1968 MGBT - All original single stage paint

Looks like you could spend a whole day or more on just those wheels...

Front bumper and trim looks really nice.

The color doesn't lend itself well to seeing what the paint really looks like in pics, but I'm sure it looks great too.

I didn't mess with the wheels but I helped the owner to pick out a great wheel cleaner and wheel brush and he's going to tackle on his own.

I machine polished all the britework as well as the glass. This always "completes" the pictures for the end-results.

Wait for the full write-up. :D

Looking forward to your write up!

Tom

Will work on this week.

First I have to come up with a list of classes and descriptions for the SDC here,

Who's going? Southern Detailer's Conference - June 5th & 6th - Lexington, Kentucky

Ugh...

Great classic period color: Pale Primrose Yellow, I think.

How did you handle the aluminum trim around the windows? Isn't it anodized or coated?
