1974 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow - what are these marks?

The pic of the red paint is one that I found on here showing pigtails. Mine didn't look like those.

I tried the Meg's Ultimate Coumpound with the orange lake country pad and the Flex rotary. It worked really really well. I was able to do in a few passes what I had been trying all day to do.

I will post some pics this evening.

Did you inspect your work at any point after using any compound? Never proceed with the second step (polishing) if you have not leveled what you need to first. Otherwise your wasting time and product.

Yeah, I inspected the test spot after an IPA wipe down after each step. Those marks showed up after compounding the sanding marks away. I moved on to polishing because I thought it was residual scratches from the sanding and that polishing would remove them. It did remove most, but I didn't know what to do . . .continue until they were gone, or go back a step? If so, how far back? Compounding? Sanding?

I decided to go with the Meg's UC and it worked really well on my test spot. So I'm gonna try again on a junk trunk lid I've got and work on my technique some more. Then do another small test spot on this paint. The good news is that very few things in this life can not be undone (it just may cost you :)
