1975 Vinyl Seats - Extreme Makeover

Bought these original 1975 Blazer Seats for an old 2-wheel Drive 1973 Blazer I owned and then later sold the Blazer and bought a 1975 4x4 Jimmy. In the process I did my best to clean up what looks like all the dirt and grime that had accumulated since 1975

Just for fun I placed some painter's tape across a section of the head rest.

The seat on the right has been cleaned using Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner Plus

After cleaning a very wet and generous amount of M40 was applied and worked into the vinyl and then some extra product was applied to gorge the old vinyl with the conditioning agents in the M4016 Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner. The seat was allowed to sit like this for about an hour and occasionally we would work the excess product again over the surface using a simple terry cloth wash rag.

Then we cleaned the other seat

Years of dirt, sweat, body oils and probably even some hair creme. Icky!

Afterwards we cleaned the striped area and treated it as well. We also wiped all the excess M40 off the seats to leave a dry, natural sheen. The seats never actually made it into the truck but at least they were clean for the next guy!

Incredible.

I was thinking that the headrest stripe looked kinda sporty though and maybe should have been left there ;)

Quite an improvement! :xyxthumbs:

Never would have thought they would have cleaned up so well.

Should of taped all the way down the seat, have some racing stripes on the seat! haha, that is a pretty amazing before and after right there.

Nice clean up job on those! APC+ is great for lots of stuff.

WOW!!!! is right. Didn't even imagine they would look that good.

That looks awesome the stripe looks like it belongs lol perfect line LOL

Looks a lot better. Maybe if anything like that comes your way again you could try M39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner. Works really great on extremly dirty vinyl.

Mike, Megs APC is good for leather, specially in 4:1 dilution?

Sorry I just found your questions while looking up this article for another thread...

Mike, Megs APC is good for leather, specially in 4:1 dilution?

Good can be a relative word depending upon a person's perspective but Meguiar's APC and APC+ are very good all purpose cleaners and safe when used correctly diluted.

Somewhere on this forum or on MOL I have the correct dilution levels listed for both products...

When it comes to cleaning both leather and vinyl you really want to try to take the least aggressive approach so as to not cause any harm to any coating applied to the surface by the manufacture of the leather or vinyl.

How To Restore and Protect a Vinyl Top using 303 Products

:)

Oooh! That's pretty slick. My buddy seems to come across one muscle car after another and has begun sending them my way for recons. The fact that APC+ and #40 (and I'd assume 303) can revive vinyl that well is inspiring. Glad I got the gallon jugs of all of them! :xyxthumbs:
