I got a chance to work on this car for a coworker of my wife. They plan on using the car in an upcoming wedding and asked if I could "clean it up and wax it". ;) It isn't anything exotic or a show car, but more like a member of their family. The paint isn't in the greatest shape as there are a lot of deep scratches, door dings, and some repainted parts, but I asked them to leave it with me over the Labor Day weekend and I'll see what I can do........:)

The car as it was dropped off. Notice the hazy, lifeless paint.

The fender had been repainted at some point.

I began to remove some of the "easy to remove" parts so I could do a better job and make it easier to polish. The rear plate bracket and the luggage rack were removed.

The first round of polishing to see what I was working with. I tested pads and products to see what will clean up the paint on the deck lid. M105 and orange pads did pretty well.

The first pass removed the oxidation pretty well, but there were still quite a few scratches left, so I went to a little more aggressive pad (purple foamed wool) and continued on to the hood.

The hood.

Peeling back the tape line to show the increased gloss from polishing.

It still needs to have a final polish (M205) done to remove any light defects, but the paint is shining up nicely.

A final polish and some Z-AIO, BFWD and it will be ready for the wedding.

Finished and waiting the owner to drive it home.

Thanks for reading.

Wow! That was a great turn around on a great little car!

Sent from my SPH-M930 using AG Online

What did you do on the rubber parts?

Thanks Everyone. :xyxthumbs:

I tried just about everything on the rubber parts, especially the bumpers. 303, Zaino Z16, Wolfgang rubber & vinyl, etc. No matter what I used, it just kept soaking in. After multiple coats of all the products it started to come around.

Other than the mess it makes on pads and towels :(, I forgot how much fun single stage paint is. :D

I had a 1972 MGB in British Racing Green over an Ocra interior - hours and hours of detailing all done by hand. Boy was that a pain - wish I had my Flex back in the day.

Awesome job!! How's your now-orange, purple foamed wool doing?? LOL. I betcha they were blown away! Good for you.

:thankyousign: everyone. I don't detail too many cars and post even fewer "Show N' Shine" cars. This one was a little different, single stage, and the owners were ecstatic, so I thought I'd share. (I also finally have a decent camera!)

Exceptional single stage paint salvage!

Love seeing classics with single stage paint before and after projects.

Nice work!

Wow. Thanks Mike!

I actually used my older orange towels and my older pads because I know they will probably be stained forever!

Thanks again,
Randy

WOW!

Seeing the results, you forget how pretty those cars truly are...great work Randy!

I was surprised that there wasn't hidden rust under the luggage rack, given the area 'it' lives.

Great lookin little roadster! If I were the owner, I know I would be extremely happy with the way it turned out!
