Dear AGO Friends,
Today is the last day of 2014. Before moving on to 2015 I wish to share one of my latest jobs this year, entering the new year dressed in white, not yellowish!
To reach the white, I've relied on latest released Menzerna Compound Super Heavy Cut 300 (SHC300 / misspelled FG300 in some places).
Customer contacted me willing to improve his 1979 MP Lafer (a VW motor fitting a custom body produced earlier in Brazil, based on British Classics from the ~60s). From what I know they sold about 5000 units, however everyone that came to my garage while I was working on it knew / lived something about this car. I'll not enter in details since I'm no specialist in this subject.
After inspecting the car with customer I couldn't promise much but we agreed on a general improvement, overall.
Through the days, I took as much time walking around the car taking decisions as I've spent time working on it. In the end I believe I could offer a fair result to my customer, compliant to his expectations.
General Before / After view
First shot, when it arrived (bit blurred pic but looked fine at display!,) - tip: Take 2 or more pictures of everything!
After (end of work)
----
You're now invited to follow bellow some details I was able to capture during the work. Most of time I'm alone here so it's one hand working and another shooting, but my objective is to share the details of detailing this car, not how good I'm at taking pictures with one hand (which I'm improving, but not quite). :xyxthumbs:
Approaching, and some details
Looking Closer, any metal part neither glass and paint was looking properly, but oxidized, scratched, stained and dirty.

Some parts are trickier to clean and polish, but we have to get in there somehow.

Engine and Bay detailed, got a before shot but :hungry: ! Would I grab the camera or my Brushes and APC? No details in between, protected with Sonus Trim and Motor Kote.

Interior
Few interior pics, but it was thoroughly worked. Ask at will:

In-Between, a test spot. I'm relying on CG extreme leather cleaner at 1:7 with water, a leather brush and a clean MF towel to wipe residue. 360º change in looks (and overall car smell).
Unfortunately, just afters:

Exterior Work
I've worked both interior / exterior simultaneously along with metal polishing and related in a sequence I had to develop in order to accomplish the task in an even manner. The picture order will not correlate exactly to the order things occurred.
Also a lot of HAND POLISHING was involved in this work! :buffing::nomore:
Let's put some lighting over this paint . . . featuring every defect you may have heard about:
Here I recommend a Thread I've read uncountable times, and every time I learn something worth to situation. Although title says White, it's intended for any paint color. By Mike Phillips:

My first test spot in this case included a cleaner wax 1-step approach and although I was being able to clean oxidation (slowly, but still), everything else was being left there (practically zero scratch removal). Paint was showing itself hard, and oxidation was heavy.
I've stepped to a medium polish and white pad, then orange pad, with few improvement (more oxidation removal, little to no effect on swirls and scratches). That's when I grabbed SHC300.
Preparation
I've decided on a waterless / rinseless approach to wash this car:
This is the paint after 'Being Washed':
The clay thing, handy tool.
And clay towel, very handy tool.
Wheel Work
Before:
After:
In-Beetween pics, after washing I've used a Drill and Polishing Cone with all metal polish either Meguiar's or Menzerna.
even though hand polishing was needed for even results
Polishing Cone can be easily washed between wheels but MF apparel should be switched often.
Here it goes again:
Helpful tool, to say the least:
