Wow!

That is such a cool project! It's like out of a Time Capsule. It's so 80's.

You did good by taking these pictures of the car buried in a garage. When you get it out take a good profile and hood shot just as it is, all dusty etc.

Okay, now to your first thread about this project...

1980 TransAm car XMAS project

Okay everyone i dont have pics yet but they will come as soon as i get started... heres the story my father is the hardest guy to shop for but he has a 1980 trans am that has been sitting for a while...

he told me he just got it started the other day so for part of his xmas pressie i would like to make the car look good...

its covered in a metric shhhhh ton of dirt and dust,

im pretty sure its single stage

so heres my plan of attack and let me know if i might need anything else.... ill be placing my order shortly after bogos come out on Friday

Wash probably do a dawn wash
clay with blackfire clay ultima UWWP for lube
polish with megs #7 and white pads ??
Full interior shampoo and clean

So im looking for advice on how many pads i may need and what i should use for dash, i havent really looked at the car not im sure it needs to be nourished if you will....i mean its 32 years old so any input on how to get oils back in the paint/dash would be greatly appreciated...maybe some megs 40?

Wash it really good and then find out if it's single stage or not. Recommendations can be more tweaked to this project after you confirm what type of paint it is. See this article,

How to Test for Single Stage or Clear Coat Paint

:)

That should be pretty rot free !!! Looks like a great project...

Looks like a great project please give us some details about the car and the history of the car if you know it

Where are you located? Just curious. That's a sweet project!

Okay Mike, finally got my brother to check for me, he said the applicator turned blue so we got single stage paint, im thinking a good wash with woflgangs car wash then a few coats of megs #7 with 12 -20 hour "soak" time then polish with menz 106 nano and white pad... wax with CG 50/50.... or maybe jetseal109 then top with 5050 or any input on the whole process would be great

Sounds like a recipe for success!

When you apply the #7 try to use a piece of soft terry cloth as the nap will provide a gentle form of scrubbing power and help you to work the polishing oils into the paint.

Can't wait to see the after pictures.

Remember to get good before pictures...

The power in the after shots is created in the before shots

Oh and inside im using my bissel auto care megs apc+ and i have 303 but was thinking about megs 40? Any input in interior restoring/dressing?

I am about 1/2 way between NYC and Albany ny... wash will most likely take place this saturday, clay, first coat of megs wont ge going on until the 19th or so (thats when my box comes in) interior will be started saturday /sunday anyone local??

okay today i had a chance to wash the car and work on the interior, i dont know where all the dirt that show up in the camera is because i cant see it when im looking at the carpet but, i have some megs 39 and 40 coming along with my #7 for the paint, so todays process was... (please dont crucify me it was like 20 degrees and my hoses were frozen)
Wash with UWWP ( I KNOw it was too dirty but all i could think of)
2 buckets both with hot water and grit guards
mothers clay bar
apc+ @ 4:1 on moldy interior and plastics
apc+ @ 10:1 on carpet and upholstry
used my Bissell on seats and shop vac on carpet

please keep in mind this is just step 1, i will be doing alot more work but wanted to get the "brunt" of what i could today while my father was out...

Thanks for sharing such a cool project and doing this extreme makeover for a Christmas Present is just as cool...

Cool car! Nice job so far on the clean up. What else can you tell us about the car? Tranny, rear......etc. The hood is from a Turbo TA, was this car a Turbo 4.9?

Do you plan on restoring the car with the exception of the driven train? Year One has a ton of stuff for these cars, plus I am sure Ebay would be your best friend.
