1986 Bronco II product testing: Ongoing Project, Thread 1

When I get some free time I will color-sand the roof with some 2k grit. It's already been treated with the #7. It just needs a little something else.:xyxthumbs:

This will be the first progress update. I worked a little on the roof today. It's pretty banged up compared to the rest of the body.

When I first applied #7 to the truck, the roof got some as well. But today I wetsanded the entire roof:

Note the sanding marks:

Then used some SF 4500 with the grey ccs pad on a few sections, this is a bad pic, but look towards the rear:

This one should be a bit easier to make out:

A closer look, I used a breaker bar to help focus...It was the only thing laying around.

After I finished about 30% of the hood with the SF 4500 (don't have time to finish it all up tonight, gotta run to work :(...)

I used the red ccs pad, and went as heavy as I felt was necessary:

Now I intend to let it "soak in" over night, while I'm at work. When I wake up I will remove it. I'm wondering if there will be any change...

The grey pad did get a bit wore out when I was polishing towards the window weatherstipping (which is a bit dry-rotted). When I noticed this was happening, I backed off the weatherstripping. So the area close to the weatherstripping will have to be hand-polished.

Thanks for looking thus far! Hopefully I can get out and do some more this weekend.Im the MAN

Two more hours will make 20hrs the #7 has dwelled. It will be interesting to see what the difference is...if it doesn't rain first.

If the weather holds, I plan to buff the opposite side with the SF 4500, and do the same 18+ hour dwell with #7. If I see a noticeable difference in the side that is currently coated with the #7, I may see if another long dwell is even more benificial. There were still some dull area's yesterday.

Area's of concern:

This photo is about a few days old. This is my temp fix for a gasket hole in the roof. I be touching the entire center of the roof until I fix this area. Just something to note.

The weatherstripping on the otherside is much worse than the side I am currently working on. I need to find some more at a junk yard or something.

Polishing really brings out them dents!:D

Letting the #7 set on the panel made a small difference. Not big enough to let more set on it. I think the first go around made the biggest difference.

After wiping of the #7 and cleaning the polished area, I applied some WGDGPS, and once again, it made a major improvement on the paints "look".

There are still some dull looking spots left on the treated section, but the spots are only seen at an angle. These areas probably need to be compounded down the road???

Look at the random bright spots on the right side, these are what I'm refering to:

Some shots from a different angle. Closer up, too.

A bit closer up.

And a bit more closer.

That is some impressive flake coming out of that old ride

I am restoring a 1973 bronco for a customer. We are going to repaint it but I'm going to try out the #7 just for fun. Youve inspired me...thanks!

I don't know how I missed this thread when it started...
