1986 Porsche 930

Thanks! Yep, that is my 88 944. Of the Porsche's I have owned that is by far the most fun one yet. It will be on the market very soon and it's time for another Porsche model.

:iagree: One of the best looking Porsches ever. Aggressive is an understatement.

The goal of this job was not to create a pristine finish. After my initial exfoliation of dead paint, a ton of RIDS were present. As much as it pained me, I just could not risk removing them. The paint was far too thin. But, gloss was certainly restored and a little life put back into her.

I thought the you said the paint was to thin to risk polishing out the RIDS? It appears RID free in your after shots. Was using Menz SIP & Nano not removing the defects? It appears you removed them all! I'm just a little confused I guess, maybe you could help clarify. The car looks flawless afterwards. A rare beauty there, great work.

The RIDS were definitely present. The after pics really didn't capture them. I didn't shoot them up close. That wasnt to deceive but I wanted to show the overall condition of the car afterwards. When I removed the oxidation and swirls, the RIDS really started rearing their ugly heads. This car is tracked so the doors are a mess from where the magnetic numbers are placed. The goal was to restore the gloss and get some good protetction on there. The Menz combo did a fantastic job of getting the paint to where it is now. It certainly would have removed the RIDS but I just didn't want to risk a burn through of the paint.

Normally I would not let a car like that leave my shop with the amount of RIDS on there. Whether the client is paying for it or not, I would have taken them out if I had enough paint to work with. All in all, the car looks great and the client was thrilled.

Ok I understand now. That's so close to perfection with that thin paint it's impressive as is. I was just saying it's pretty much perfect looking to most. I understand your desire for 100% correction for your clients.

Thanks LM. One thing I noticed but didn't expect was the lack of the rids showing up in the bright sunlight. Usually sunlight shows everything. I used the Blackfire sealant and carnuba for the first time on that 930. The sealant did say that it may have some filling properties. It looks like it did a pretty good job although I have never had a sealant hide defects before. Under my Infratech lighting the rids were definitely more faint after the Blackfire was applied. I toyed with glazing the paint but decided to just live with it the way it was.

The original plan was to Cquartz this car due to help slow down any additional damage to the thin paint. The client's son is autistic and really enjoys washing and waxing the car. It is his job to take care of it. With Cquartz, he wouldn't be able to play with the car as much so I went with sealant and wax so after a 7 or so months he can reapply some nuba to it.
