OK this BMW is my father in laws and it was absolutely trashed. I showed him spots where I would not even attempt at getting deep scratches out. It also has some bondo (sp?) work on the bottom in places with a little rust showing, which I also avoided entirely.
The process:
1. Started with a good two wash, which it had only seen about 2-3 per year according to my FIL. It showed.
2. Clayed with WG's claybar using DP's rinseless wash and gloss at clay lube strength. BTW, this worked extremely well for me. I had been using meg's mild clay with the old DP universal clay lubricant. It worked OK at removing, but constantly left behind clay smearing everywhere, regardless of how much lubricant I used. So I would always have to follow with P21s paintwork cleanser to remove the smearing and get a clean surface. I did not have any problems whatsoever with the WG claybar using the DP RWG as clay lube. Very happy,despite the high cost of the WG claybar. Wish I would have taken pictures of clay after as well, it was impressive.
3. I did test sections with different products using my PC 7424xp. At first I settled on WG total swirl remover. However, then my FIL came over and said "wow, that's incredible"...but...he was looking at the unpolished side that had simply been washed and clayed.
4. So knowing that my FIL was going to be happy regardless, I decided to save my more expensive product (I did his car for free, labor and products). I switched to some SwirlX I had while using an orange LC CCS pad, most of the time. At times I also used a LC hydro-tech cyan pad and tangerine pad.
5. After polishing the car, I wiped it down with Menz. Top Inspection.
6. I then used Menzerna Powerlock, using a LC red pad. (Side note, this pad just seems to soak up product for me)
7. Removed the powerlock after about 45 min. Let it sit in the garage overnight.
8. Finished with Collinite 915. I actually thought I over applied this in some sections and was really worried about removal. I then let it sit for about 45 min before removing it. Removal was easy. Not as easy as powerlock obviously, but seriously still fairly effortless.
9. WG Black Diamond Tire Gel.
Pics are below, I didn't try and remove every defect on this, just wanted to make it look better. My FIL was very, very happy. Its his daily driver and he kept it in the garage for a week and rode his bike to work (about 10 miles, but he is an avid biker).
