Ok,...i really screwed things up now,...i tried to remove the Krazy Glue off the hard vinyl dashboard (i think the part is called a dashboard header, still not sure) and got some of the glue off, but also have 2 awful stains where it removed some of the color...I am so upset with this, but i was an idiot for trying to correct something that wasn't as bad as it is now....I give up!!

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried the dashboard covers that are sold by JC Whitney? I was wondering if it would be worthwhile for me just to order this, but i'm concerned that it will look tacky (although i can't stand the way it looks now...anything would be better) I can't seem to find a replacement part and i'm sure if i do, it's going to be quite expensive (and i have a feeling i won't be able to locate this part since it's an older Camaro) Has anyone ever used these dashboard covers? I don't really care for the carpeted one, but was thinking maybe the velour....Augggh!! I'm just so disgusted!! I never leave things alone...always have to try and fix them on my own and screw them up big time!!

Any suggestions?? Thanks for any help you can give me...I know i'm becoming a pest with this dashboard problem....

You can try to have your dashboard dyed to black or whatever the color was

You're not an idiot. You are human.

Some of the dash covers (Dashmat) are nice and a common sight here where the sun ruins your plastic in about 2 years. The plastic dash caps look worse than the fabric covers in my humble opinion.

Next time try a test spot on the inside of the glove box or some other area that you don't see every time you drive the car.

Remind me to tell you about the time I spent 5K rebuilding a jeep engine because I couldn't get a plastic valve cover to stop leaking....

Where would i go to have something like that done an auto body shop or do i go to a detailer? I really would like to replace it since it was already cracked and driving me nuts, but i'm sure i'll have trouble finding the part and it will be expensive i'm sure...

I was so proud of the way it came out after i worked on detailing it for almost 4 days and now i screwed things up again! AUGGHHH!! I give up!!

Thanks for the suggestion and please let me know where i'd have to go to possibly have this done...

I would say that a body shop would be able to put you in touch with somebody to do it. It might be cheaper to find a replacement dash if you could find a nice one that has been used. Sometimes aftermarkets are cheaper too. If I was you I would look around for a used dash. Many scrap yards have totaled cars that have perfect interiors. Good luck with whatever happens. And nice choice for picking a camaro

I bet the harsh chemicals in the glue discolored the dash before you removed the glue, and the removal process did some more damage.

Colorbond makes some great paint for Vinyl trim. You can get the paint just about any manufactured OEM color. It's especially awesome for permanently discolored trim.

This is not a competing website, because it is a permanent paint for trim, so take a look:

http://www.bryndana.com/classic.html

I would remove the dash if you decide to repaint it.

Just a tip, like most aerosol paints, the surface must be properly prepped and the ambient temp must be above 70, and the humidity no higher than the manufacturer recommends.

Thanks for the kind words,...but i still feel like an idiot! I love this car (although it has a lot of miles on it, and some knicks/ chips here and there, which i'm also upset about.) I really try to keep my cars in good shape...I'm so proud of this car and mad that i messed it up this way.

I should just learn not to try so hard to fix things on my own...should rely on professional's (which i'm going to end up doing anyway!)

Plenty of dash pads on ebay and they are not as expensive as you would think.

Thanks for the tip on the Colorbond! I'll have to look into it....Want to hear something really funny and off the wall (this is how desperate i'm getting...you're gonna love this!) I thought maybe i could blend the spots in with a cream shoe polish (yes, you read that right,...shoe polish!!! LOL!!) so i stopped by my shoe repair place and he actually seemed interested in trying to help me clean the spot (once he heard it was a Camaro!! LOL!) by using a vinyl shoe spray he sells in the store..he' probably would do a better job spraying it for me since he works with this product and it would look better than it does right now. At this point, it looks so bad i'd try it. I know you all think i'm nuts thinking of the shoe polish idea, but i'm trying!!! LOL!! Still think i should locate a used part from a reliable auto salvage. I have to start callig around to see if i can find the part.

Thanks again for all the suggestions (i like this forum!!) and yepper,...i love Camaro's! Would love to get a new one, but i do love the one i have, so i guess i'll just keep replacing what needs to be fixed and keep it in the best shape possible. Lots of miles on this car, but i had fun with it over the years!

LMAO!!!! I know!!! Friggin' shoe polish!! I actually just looked on Ebay and saw the part, but he shows it in black and i need charcoal...just e-mailed the seller and asked if he has my color.

Hey, at least i made y'all laugh tonight!! LOL! Shoe polish!! What the heck was i thinking??? LOL!!

It's OK. Shoe polish out of desperation is understandable, especially when you haven't been informed of all the options. Luckily you were on this forum with some very knowlegeable folks like Dwayne.:dblthumb2:

I didn't check them all but there is more than one listed. That's just someplace to start looking, there are plenty of aftermarket dash pads and you may even be able to get one from GM.

Awww,...i love this forum! Everyone has been great with suggestions and i really appreciate it! Nice to have someone to discuss car questions with..don't really have anyone i can ask. I'm going to look into the one that's being sold on Ebay. The one on Ebay is black, i need it in graphite (i kept calling it charcoal until i saw it's actually graphite) It could be painted that color if he only carries the black, right??

Hey,...at least my idea with the shoe polish was better than the guy in Pep Boys yesterday (they never pay attention when i go there...guess they think i'm just a dumb woman,...and, well, after the shoe polish idea, i might just be one!! LOL!) The guy behind the counter told me to just slap a sticker over it!! Suddenly, my shoe polish idea sounded pretty darn smart!!! No,...i know my idea was pretty pathetic, but i am a desperate woman (don't take that the wrong way!!LOL!)

Thanks for putting up with my crazy posts tonight...I just want my car back to normal again...

Well Darleen I'll give you credit, most women would have thought about nail polish before shoe polish :D

Oh and yes the dash can be dyed to match, most upholstery shops will do it or you can do it yourself.

Thanks....Don't use nail polish that much (especially after detailing the car...ripped off what nails i had and my hands are a mess, ...but ya know what? I really enjoy working on my car and making it look the best i can (except for the catastrophe with the dash!) Give me a nice sunny day, some great country music and all the compound/wax/cleaning items i need, and i'm a happy girl!! Physically, after i finished the car, i felt like i should have been put in traction and hooked up to a morphine drip,,..but i was happy anyway!!
'
I've always loved a nice car...I've had a few in my lifetime (my favorite was my '73 Nova...loved that car!) and a gorgeous candy apple red RX-7....

Nothing like a beautiful car!! Thanks for helping me out with this tonight...I appreciate all the feedback!! You guys are great!!

Haha that's ironic. Because even though my mom has passed on we still have her first car. And it's a 1973 candy apple red Camaro
