Here is my first attempt at giving a full detail to a friends car that he just purchased on Monday. It is a 1997 Dodge Viper GTS in red with polished wheels and no other options. The car has 15k miles and has mostly sat the last few years with an occasional start up. The car was in a garage near a construction site so it was dusty. The car arrived at my house today and I started gathering the tools for the trade and put together a game plan. Look for more updates here or go to my website. Ya I'm not too sure about simple green... It will definitely strip all the wax, sealant, or fillers off but it wouldn't be what I would call a gentle wash... Although maybe you're just thinking about using it for an engine degreaser which is probably fine.

Very cool car though.

Good luck and keep us up to date with pics!

I used to have one of those, but mine you could hold in one and and go "vroom..." lol

I think the only thing I use that is not designed for detailing specifically. Is rubbing alcohol (IPA) other than that. I just like to stick with detailing products. (Just OCD)

What I like to do before applying opti coat is throw in an ounce of APC concentrate in my foam gun mixed with soap and foam it down that way, to strip of all the waxes. To apply opti coat. But might be overkill for regular waxes and sealants.

After polishing the paint you could just do a WW. If you really wanted to go a step further you could do an IPA wipedown too. Then apply your wax or sealant. Probably at 1 part IPA and 3 parts water.

Just some thoughts and good luck...!

I tried to mark the items together that I will be using. The Simple green is for parts of the engine bay and the wheel well openings and suspension parts. Far too strong of a cleaner anywhere else. I should get a lot done this weekend.

good luck!

BTW simple green is fine for what you are using it for, I occasionally do the same with no ill effects! A lot of haters of it on this site though.

yeah that sounds fine, I thought you were going to use it for wipe downs on the paint. Good luck and keep us posted.

Tonight the Viper will get the foam gun, 2 bucket wash and clay bar treatment.

Spent about 5 hours tonight just cleaning and clay barring the car. There are more pics on my site but here are the highlights from today.

The driver side foot well in the interior pic on your first post looks like it has dirt accumulation closer to 115,000 miles.

Seriously, who drives a car that nice (and expensive) only to treat it like absolute crap? Looks like he walked behind a salt truck and then got in his car, about ten times...

Here are pics of the remaining items that were worked on. Lots more on my website.
