I recently had a customer bring me a durango that had a hood decal but now someone took it off and wants me to get the effects off and the rest of the vehicle is a extreme makeover level 4 XMT and yellow pad is the only way to get the scratches out so I don't know what to do with the hood it's very bad like down to clear coat.View attachment 15679View attachment 15680View attachment 15681 wet sand ? I can feel with my nail on edges where decal was the pics will show you more please any advice is welcomed

Wow, I really don't know what can be done there...that's a pretty good edge, it might have to be wetsanded off like you thought... but that's just a guess. Anyone else?

Have you tried anything yet? Is it actually edged into the paint and clear or is it all just residue from the decal?

No just into the clear rest looks ok and it's not residue where the sticker was is lower than the clear on the paint so the edge is we're the sticker was is lower

I'm at a loss as well. I don't have a clue short of wet sanding. At least it's just the hood. Could be the whole thing. I would go with wet sanding and start at the lightest grit you can get and go from there.

  1. Try warming up a portion of that area with an ordinary hair dryer. With a plastic razor blade, try slipping it under the decal and carefully scrape it off.
  2. 3M also makes a decal and adhesive remover that should help this along.

There is no decal left that's what is left lower than clear coat is the outline of the decal

Wet sanding is about all you can try but honestly I think a repaint is the only way to eliminate that mess.

I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole. It looks as if the clear coat came off with the decal removal. I'd send them to a paint shop, that's not a job for a detailer. Just as I wouldn't see a doctor for an oil change, or see a mechanic for back surgery.

As Mike Phillips often says..."Allow someone else the blessing of working on that".
