Is M101 a SMAT or DAT?

I thought it was a SMAT product but it feels very gritty.

SMAT = Super Microscopic Abrasive Technology

Something in the formula was "not" microscopic. We also used this product by hand to remove baked-on adhesive and it worked really well for this when 3M Adhesive Remover didn't touch it.

:)

Mike I feel your pain on removing those stripes. I've done it many times before. At least they weren't reflective vinyl. I always seem to only get the top layer off and have to struggle with the bottom reflective layer.

Perhaps my comment about using the maroon W72707 and it generationg heat didn't come out as I intended. I was trying to ask if there was a particular reason why you chose that pad over a wool pad.

Hi Bill,

The first reason I used the foam cutting pad is because I spoke with Jason Rose about this project and using M101 on it and he suggested this pad, I also referenced this conversation in #4 here....

Meguiar's M101 Foam Cut-Compound versus Swirls!

Just to note...

I did speak with Jason Rose about this project car and using the new M101 Foam Cut Compound and I asked for his recommendation and he recommended I use the M101 as it is formulated and intended to be used and that's with foam pads on rotary buffers.

So priority #1 will be to offer everyone that attends Thursday night's class a chance to use the system as it was designed to be used.

The other reason is because the label on the bottle reads,

Foam Cut Compound

Kind of an indicator on how it's supposed to be applied....

:D

Just to note... if you haven't used the Nanoskin Autoscrub pads they work great at removing pretty much every contaminant off the surface to create a super smooth surface perfect for the next step.

A glossy finish starts with a smooth surface. After we removed the vinyl graphics off our recent extreme makeover to Jay's 1999 Trans Am the next step was to decontaminate it and for this we used the Nanoskin Autoscrub Pads...

Here's Ken using a 6" Nanoskin Autoscrub pad on a Porter Cable DA Polisher to decontaminate the door...

First Timer...
Note not only was this the first time Ken used a Nanoskin Autoscrub Pad it was the first time he had ever used a Porter Cable DA Polisher.

Super High Gloss Results!
Check out how glossy the ORIGINAL 13-year old paint came out and the glossy results you see here started with getting the paint smooth first and that's where the Nanoskin Autoscrub pads helped out...

Jay's very good at taking care of his cars and other toys.

I'll try to have him bring this TA back for our next Thursday Night Project so we can check it out again...
