Hello!

Have been lurking the forums for a while and just looking at various post and articles in preparation for my first ever detail of my 2010 Honda accord which I got used. Im not sure if its ever been detailed but I do know that it has swirls everywhere.

my question is if the megs ultimate polish along with a white chemical guys foam pad doesn't do the job will I do any harm if I have to go over it with a orange chemical guys foam pad and megs ultimate compound? Ill be using the griots garage 6" DA with 5" bp and 5.5" pads.

I know people say Honda's have soft paint so I don't want to harm it by being to aggressive.

Thanks in advance!

The next course of action would be to continue doing the test spot with the Ultimate Polish, but with the more aggressive orange pad. If that combination doesn't take care of the swirls, then bump up to the compound and orange pad. Just be sure that when you start with the polish and white pad that you work the polish thoroughly; use very slow arm speed and moderate pressure.

No harm.

Just start out doing a test spot using the UP first with the white pad and see if that gets the paint to where you want it to be. If not, then do a test spot using the UC with the orange pad AND follow this step with the UP and the white pad and see if that gets the paint where you want it to be.

Just because paint is soft doesn't necessarily mean it's easier to damage while polishing (necessarily!). I've had to use a compound and microfiber pad on Porsche paint (also soft) and when I got my 2010 Acura TSX I DEFINITELY need M105 to get the results I wanted.

Good luck! Just read as many threads as you can that apply to your situation. It isn't difficult as long as you are prepared and consistent. Take it easy and apply correctly. Take care.

Peace,

Darrin

Okay thanks for all the advice people :xyxthumbs:. Going to be starting on the hood and maybe one of the front fenders tomorrow. I'll post some pics soon.

I just did M105/M205 on orange/white respectively on a GG6 as well (5" BP).

I don't believe I marred my paint, but I'm a complete newb to this stuff!

So I've moved on to the doors and am stuck as to how to address the door handles very tight space and very little surface area... they are pretty beat up with some pretty harsh scratches from what I'm assuming is keys.

What would be good way to comping and polish them.. applicator pads?

Try Meguiars ScratchX in the cup behind the door handles (Target, Advance Auto etc sell it). I assume that is what you are referring to? The keyhole is in the door handle if I'm not mistaken? Use the same for that. I would use a microfiber hand applicator with the ScratchX to be efficient by hand.

Yeah that's right it's just scratched to hell and back there. I'll try that. What if the scratch x doesn't quite work out the damage? Repaint maybe?
