2 part coatings

I am not sure the reason for a 2 part coating for your mentioned brand. However, as mentioned by jrs1418, some brands I knew of uses a 2 coat system simply because the base coat offer all the hardness and shine but perform less ideally with beading. The top coat is then forumlated to provide that high angle tight beading that most of the people wanted.

But nano pro does everything nano base does, but better.
So first coat is dead weight imho

But anyways
I'll be doing side by side test between the top coat vs glosscoat vs uber vs CSL then ill squeeze a combo of CSL topped with pro nano since they both good for 5 years and go from there
 
I'm interested to see your results. Will you post periodic evaluations here?

Not sure if I'll do any chemical tests
But will do a simple comparison of gloss, beading ability, scratch resistance and just weathering (panel will sit outside throughout spring/summer)
 
Someone on the Pearl Nano Intallers FB page already threw a plethora of chemicals at pearl and they did not strip. Dont remember exactly what he tried, but straight acid and some other really harsh stuff was used.

I'm more interested in gloss, hydrophobic and anto marring abilities
Mike hot up Mike Lambert for a sample of one of the ones he uses as one was claimed to be the hardest and shrinks the least upon curing hen it's competitors
The other he uses is Japanese formulation which means it's probably top dog

Theirs another from the UK ive been really wanting to try that's rubber resin based but don't think Janis will ship it to me cause it's very temperature dependant on install (needs winter weather or AC to control)
 
I'm looking into putting something up against OL for headlight restorations and doing a durability/cost test. What coatings are you familiar with? You can PM me if you can't post brands in the thread.

I've put megs wheel brightener, goof off, straight degreaser, carb cleaner all on Pearl top coat. Did not seem to effect it in the slightest.
 
Actually just got off the phone with David Elliot. He said that top coat adds gloss and is more hydrophobic then the base coat. Phone was breaking up but do not remember him saying anything about the top coat not lasting as long as base coat. Wouldn't this product line be like other coating line where there is a "topper" that can be used? I am guessing could use their waterless wash or even the advanced ultra nano to keep this coating alive.

Pearl Nano is made in Japan FYI.

the "topper" is the top nano coat. After that, you can use any wash products and waxes you like to clean and maintain, it just wont last as the Nano will repel them after full cure. I use the green waterless, never tried the ultra nano but ive heard great things. I've been using the green for 5 years.

Dave told me Base coat is rated at 3yrs, and top is rated at 5. Base coat should have special bonding agents for paint, and top bonds with the base and adds gloss and hydrophobicity. I definitly notice a darker look when top coat is applied, especially noticeable on blacks.
 
See thats what I've been trying to ask him
He never answered it saying one has better bonding then the other... just that they were made to be used together but you can use pro/top coat by itself...
 
Btw, applied base coat to a small section on my hornet's enamel paint..no streiking or bonding issues or whatever
Haven't tried it on my laquer paint job on my skylark yet.. Perhaps tmrw
 
When i said topper i meant like how Reload is used to rejuvenate CQuartz.

As for the 2 parts i was told they have not found a way to get the hardness of base coat and the level of gloss and hydrophobic abilities from top coat in 1 product.

This is true, that is why most pro grade coatings come in two stages.

look at HD. Their Nitro Seal is a 2 part sealant. Car Pro came out with Essences and it is a primer for coatings. Polish Angel and Gyeon both have a dedicated primer for their coatings as well. Looks like this is the way coatings are going.
 
Still not sure if Polish Angel a true coating, but I do love the look of it
Haven't tried cosmic, just Viking coat
