2001 Bmw X5

This one received the Warm and Fuzzy (interior) along with the Headlight Restoration service. She had a little over 100K miles on her and was the other daily driver to a Jeep as her always daily driver.

There were some red stains that Folex couldn't get after multiple applications. It still came out really good.

Popped the hood and seen this:


5 minutes with the vac:


Now the headlights....My Nemesis.. These were the worst that I have seen. I was told that TW Headlight Kit was tried before. It had this film on them that was destroying my sanding discs.. I used my trusty 3M Headlight Kit.

Now for the drivers side ughh after hand sanding:


The brown stuff near the bottom was from the sanding disc, even though I used the drill at medium speed so it wouldn't heat up the plastic and stopped often.


I ran out of discs and being a Sunday everything in my county was closed. I talked to the owner and she was really understanding. I said let me get more supplies and I'll finish it for free.

I used 250 grit to get this funk off and I knew it would leave scratches. I am picking up a stock of 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000 grit discs for cases like this. I'll follow up here once I complete it.

I use the 3M kit as a base for my kit, though I think I'm down to only the 3'' compounding pad and trizact pads though. Anyway, a tip. I refuse to pay the ridiculous premium for 3M pads (around $25 for each box of 50 of the 500 and 800, give or take), so I use Meguiar's now. Much cheaper and they work on the same interface pad. I do still have to buy the 3000 trizact discs (not cheap…), but I save a lot on the regular discs. And with a box of 50 you should have enough for about 20 more cars. Food for thought.

Ouch I didn't know it was that much. I'll look into the alternative. You would think it would be cheaper since 3M acquired Meguiar's. Thanks for the tip!
