Well, I finally got around to the daunting task of tackling the somewhat neglected paint on the expedition.

Let me start by saying that this car has spent MOST of is life in the outdoors, and has been waxed very few times. This fact was VERY apparent on the hood and painted upper valance. It also has taken a few beatings from being a DD for 7 or 8 years (no longer a DD, because of gas prices still being on the high side)

on to the pics

Then I blew one of my last Griots 3inch pads , and also found out how many times I can use profanity in one sentence

I still have yet to find the 3rd chunk. I think it may be on the roof of my 2 story house or somewhere off in my neighbors yard. All 3 of my 3 inch cutting pads are damaged in some way, from only ONE detail. Griots better replace these freaking things

all done compounding

After- (no scrubbing, just the UC spray. I did apply a little too much, as the stains on my driveway show)

- Somewhat polished chrome trim
-Dressed the tires
-Somewhat dressed the black trim with megs back to black or whatever its called. I have a bottle of CG silkshine on the way...just wish it was here now
-Wiped down all window trim and door jambs with blackfire APC
-Used invisible glass to clean the windows

Finished product!!

well, that's all for now. hopefully I can get some better pics of it tomorrow in the daylight. :dblthumb2:

Great reflections. The pad breaking apart and the 3 hours compounding made me chuckle. Did you compound the roof too?

Thanks! Never seen the reflections that good on the truck, so I'm really happy with it

The pad is funny now, but when it happened, oh boy was I pissed. I had one 3 inch pad to apply 2 abrasive products. Had to do some improvising. I didn't do the roof, I think I need some stuff that is a lot heaver cut for that. I didnt really spend 3 hours compounding, probably something closer to 2. I was 3 hours into the full detail when i took that picture. It took so long was because I had to do a little testing on the hood before I started on the rest of the truck, and I had to do a few passes to make sure the UC was really cutting, and not just laying oil down.

that color looks great for the age. The few times I had a pad implode it was because I used too much product and let the pad get to hot. Try swapping them out in faster frequency next time to see if it helps.

Nice work

Great detail & selection of products! Also what backing plate are you using on your GG 6? Im wondering if you would be better off with a LC 3.5 "plate and their 4" hydro pads.

my 6 inch BP is the stock griots garage one

my 3 inch BP is a LC 3 inch plate 3 Inch Dual Action Flexible Backing Plate, da backing plate, random orbital backing plate

I regret not buying a 3.5 and the 4 inch pads

Great Job Bro.
thanks!
That was a long day! Looks good though!
a long day indeed. the work was well worth it! and thanks dude!!

Guessing you're a Ford guy, lol. Great job. I hear ya it's long hard work most don't understand. A rotary ,migh help speed things up when the correction work needs to go that distance. Looks better than new now!

Oh yeah, defiantly a ford guy. Lol. Got a man cave full of ford posters and brochures and stuff. Lol

I want to step up to a rotary one day, but as of the the expedition detail, I've only used the griots DA for correction 2 times. I need a little more experience first I think.

Great work. Hopefully that will be the last time compounding. The same would have gone through my head if it was a DD. Why am I doing this again?

In regards to the ads imploding definitely tyevpadvgot too hot. You may want to look at the 5" backing plate and get some 5.5" hydroteck pads. It would make the detailing process go a bit faster.
