2002 Toyota 4-Runner (Skunktastic Interior, DRAMATIC turn-around!!)

I realize this is after the fact but I fairly recently worked on a car that had reeked of skunk. Here's the process that I used and it worked perfectly.

1. Take a big box of Arm & Hammer baking soda sprinkle liberally over every interior piece of cloth you can. For the door panels spritz them or wet them SLIGHTLY (so it can stay on the fabric long enough), then throw some Baking soda at the cloth in the door.
2. Scrub baking soda into the fabric. Let sit for at least an hour, longer if possible.
3. Vacuum the areas that you had applied baking soda.
4. Use whatever carpet cleaner you prefer to clean same areas mentioned previously.
5. Clean or preferably replace the Cabin Air filter if applicable.
6. Clean the vents as best as you can.
7. Turn on the vehicle with fan turned on high and doors open. I would use both the heater and then air conditioner to be on the safe side. If the odor is present in the air system you would probably have to go up to one of those air system cleaners that AutoGeek carries. (I did not need to do this part so I am just speculating.)
8. Have someone who has not been inhaling skunk fumes for hours come by and ask them to smell the car.
9. Take a break.
10. In my case since the skunk had hit the wheel, start working in the wheel well and undercarriage. If the smell has gotten into the drums/disks the smell will reappear when the liquid becomes atomized. The way I got rid of the smell was an alternating cleaning with degreaser and tomato juice.

It always amazes me how people can allow their vehicles to get to this point. Nice job on the cleanup!
