2005 Cavalier

Interior first
He said a detailing company with an actual shop near by will buff it out and polish it up for $80 and it only takes 4 hours. I told him there is no way, considering this needs a compound and polish, they can do 2 steps in 4 hours for $80 and own a shop.

Sounds like the "local detail shop" is nothing more then a car wash whi offers detailing. $80 is what I've seen here in NJ promoted at the local car washes. Yea they will do a bs 2 part but that's after they beat the paint up by running it through the cae wash and they won't do nearly what you did to the rims and tires.
Bottom line some people are just jerks who hate their lives.

You told him what he was going to get for the price, and you did it. He agreed, and then complained about the job? You were the honest one here. Chalk it up to experience, and if another guy like that comes along, just say no.

Well it sounds like you did you job professionally.
Don't worry about this pos. I know it's hard, we all take pride in our work and
it hurts our little feelings when someone doesn't appreciate or even notice what we did.
You did a great job on that car, especialy for the price, so your still a good guy and a good detailer.
Don't let this bung hole take that away from you.

Interior first

The customer wasn't happy at all. For some reason he thought I would buff out the whole car, remove the rust from his rims somehow, shampoo and clean the whole interior and make it swirl free for $80.

I was unable to meet him at pickup and he said he would leave the money at the mailbox and he left without leaving anything.

Pretty upset right now. I note all the initial calls for what the customer wants and for how much and it's never been an issue. Not with this guy.

Damn, I'm glad I saw this post of yours', because now I can throw my two cents in, lol.

My personal opinion, the car looks so much better, even though the customer let it get really nasty. You said the guy expected to get more for $80?? He clearly has not one clue about detailing. Hell, just keeping a car clean, he's clueless. It's very disappointing to hear that he wasn't happy. Honestly, dude kind of sounds ungrateful. For $80, I would have thoroughly washed, clayed and sealed the paint, done some light interior cleaning, etc. You did 5 hours of work for $80, then he wants to pay you $50. That's bullsh!t. That's a person who doesn't understand a thing about car cleaning. Guarantee you he thinks the $5 car wash down the street does a better job. If so, he's full of sh!t, and I personally wouldn't bother doing anymore work for him if he can't appreciate it. You did a nice job on that car.

The car looks great. $80 detail job, 5 hours to do = $16 an hour. What you did to the car was worth a lot more than $80. You could take him to court and get you're $30, or take it as a lesson learned. I'm sure 4 flat tires would ruin his day!

I could never bring myself to doing that but I believe in karma so hopefully he gets the picture lol. Thank you for the compliments, much appreciated.

He said he took his older saturn their and they did it in 4-6 hours and when he got it it had some white stuff on it and the detailer brushes it off and said it was compound. I told him if they compund but dont polish it's a waste and explained why. He said oh I'm sure they do both. No way I said in 6 hours they could do that.

Hard for me to say no to anyone, I won't sell out or anything but I can cut a deal here and there. But guys like this are a good learning experience. Nothing much I can do.

It's hard because I'm very detailed and as perfect as I can be in analyzing every single detail about what they want, what they are looking for, and feeling out their attitude and adjusting every single piece of everything to make them happy. So when this happens I take it out on myself thinking where did I go wrong? Because I try to be perfect at it, but that's when I come here and hear all the good praises of my work that puts me at ease.

I'm thinking of making a video on my next full detail of everything I do so customers who question pricing and work get the idea.

Thanks for the compliments. He sounds like he has no idea what goes into it. In his head I think he's thinking vacuum, dressing and quick shampoo on the inerior, then was it and brush the rims. The rims alone took iron x, chrome polish and a lot of rubbing because of how much surface rust they had. And they were they chrome rims that very bumpy on the inside not just flat. Hopefully he gets the picture in the future.

No problem, dude. I just detailed a friend's 2010 Mazdaspeed3 last night, spent 6 hours on it, it seriously whooped my butt. I feel like I was struck by a train, lol. Thank God I bought Adam's DWC, his rims were so caked with brake dust inside the barrels, they required at least two applications of DWC. That stuff is nice and it definitely proved itself to me, so more will be on order for sure.

When I was done, he was very happy. I polished the roof of his car to attempt to "remove" some water spots, and while they were diminished a good bit, he could tell the difference. I even knocked down some scratches, he was happy. He keeps his car somewhat clean, not like how I keep mine, so he's got the pride of ownership. I've noticed that people who let their cars get really nasty just don't really care. Some will appreciate the work to bring it back to life, some people think the dealer or the touchless car wash can do better. People are goofy. I had a lady ask me how much I charge for a good detail and then she asked the dealer how much they charge. I work at a Toyota dealer and I see the terrible jobs the detail guys do. They SATURATE tires with milky white, slimy dressing and just let it dry. Yeah, they probably only get paid 9 bucks an hour, but dressing tires properly takes maybe 5 full minutes, for me, at least.

Ah, I'm rambling now, so I'll stop. :) Like I said before, great job on the car. That job should have awarded you twice the original amount, at the very least., and even that probably wouldn't have been enough.

Thanks for the compliments much appreciated.

I just came home from a local major dealership, looking at newer used cars, and saw horrible holograms and buffer trails all over.

Well, you gave him more than I would have for $80, and definitely more than he deserved. I gotta give you props for having the patience to deal with this douche. :props:

lol, patience is one thing that is just natural with me. Thanks, i'd hate to not have it in this situation

It looks good to me. you took a lot of photos but the important one you missed. His plate #.

So you agreed to do a job for $80 that took 4 hours?!?! Is this guy a family member? You are charging your time at $20/hr and that's without any supply costs! I think you are going to "eat" this one. Think of is as tuition for the lesson this guy taught you. Don't let this happen again. If you troll on the bottom you're going to get bottom feeders. Raise your prices and charge a decent fee. Sorry to sound like a jerk. I'm just pissed this guy ripped you off and you did a great job with his car. Never again.

Awesome job! The paint looks awesome!

Thank you

Thanks, and I've got it written down :props: lol

Yah, I ate it alright. He seems like a bum of a guy alright. I just hope I get the check in the mail sometime this week so I don't have to cal him back or go any further than that.
