2006 Ford Expedition - Production Detailing Demo Car



This is a neglected 2006 Ford Expedition that we will be using to showcase the Meguiar's Microfiber DA Correction System for doing production detailing.

We will also be showing how to chemically decontaminate paint using Iron X. White paint works best for the Iron X demo and I've already tested this Ford Expedition and it bleeds like crazy.

I'll be surprised if those wheels come clean. My sister has a similar vintage Expedition, and the wheels are totally trashed from neglect.

Question for anyone...When you chemically decontaminate paint using a product such as IronX, can you skip claying before polishing or do a lot of you use IronX in addition to Clay?

I would go with claying after ironx. I did a jeep with alot of iron on it, paint needed to be clayed, but ironx did help.

Always clay. If the paint is well maintained you may not even need to use iron x. If it's like this Expedition, definitely both. Claying will take care of those above surface contaminants. IX will zero in on the ferrous particles embedded in the paint. Using both before polishing makes your job easier and beautifies the paint.

I'd be worried about pitting and discoloration from the brake dust corroding the wheels. That seems to be one thing most folks ignore. But on most American cars (i.e., not a German cars) if you just wash the wheels when you wash the car, there's no issue.

Just to note...

This truck belongs to one of my co-workers who just bought it used for a really good deal. He's been chomping at the bit to detail it himself but as a favor to me he's held off so I can use it for my detailing class.

If you look through any of the pictures and comments threads from my detailing boot camp classes I always have fun and cool cars here for my students to work on but I also always have a reality check car. That is what most people are going to work on when they detail cars either their own or for customers.

One thing for sure, with the new Meguiar's Xtra Cut Microfiber Cutting Disc and some Iron X, this Ford Expedition is going to shine like brand new when my class is finished.

You do both.

Iron X is focused on removing iron or steel contamination. While it might help to remove things like overspray paint, industrial fallout, tree sap mist and all other forums of airborne contaminants, many of these types of things will need to be mechanically removed.

In this case we're going to do the below in order,


Messy procedures first before washing

1. Machine Polish Glass with Pinnacle Glassworks Water Spot Remover
2. DP All-in-One Headlight Polish
3. Cosmetic Engine Detail

Washing starting with wheels and tires first

1. Iron X the wheels and TUF Shine Tire Cleaner + Machine scrub the tires
2. Iron X the paint
3. Foam Gun + Microfiber Chenille Wash Mitts
4. Rinse
5. Foam Gun + Nanoskin Wash Mitts
6. Dry
7. Meguiar's Microfiber DA Correction System
8. TUF Shine Tire Clearcoat
9. Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant

The Reality Check Cars usually take the longest in my class as we knock out a lot of regular car detailing procedures using a single vehicle.
