This is a client of mine who is a Lotus freak! This is his second purple Exige! Car sees track duty so it has a few defects/flaws. A lot of rubber transfer onto the body panels, marring, swirls, some very heavy scratches that I informed him will not be able to be removed, and some water spotting.

Game plan: correction and a coating.



The details:

Waterless wash with McKee’s37 N914.
Clayed with medium nano sponge, N914 as lube.
Rubber and tar removed with McKee’s37 tar remover.
Flex 3401.
Rupes iBrid.
Misc. foam pads.
DeFelsko PTG.
Scangrip lighting.
Beta test compound.
Misc. MF towels.
Adam’s glass cleaner.
Adam’s APC.
Adam’s Ceramic coating.
Pinnacle exhaust cleaner and brightener.
Metro vacuum.
Adam’s VRT tire dressing.
McKee’s37 fast interior.

I bet that little rocket is a bunch of fun on the track, with that “go cart” like handling.

Great results too I must say. Sweet colour, & I bet it looks a whole lot better in real life too. Nice work Scott, I bet the owner was stoked .... will be faster now. :props:

Worked at a Lotus dealership in the D before I moved to Chicagoland and never saw one in that color. I see CF panels, isn't the car light enough, LOL. These cars are track tools but really move on the highway!

Thanks everyone! It was really a fun project to work on! I enjoyed it! Factory CF front end, rear fenders, hatch and rear end. $9K+ in CF body panels! Color is pretty special.
 
Talk about different ends of the detailing spectrum. After reading Aaryn’s thread on the VW detail, Scott has a six figure track “toy” in his office.

Cool car, crazy amounts of carbon fiber, and no way in hell I’d be able to track that now, after all that polishing. Something tells me your client can afford a few more visits:)

How is the Carbonfiber to correct vs paint on a car? A lot harder or softer or pretty much the same as paint? If have got it correctly it's some kind of finish layer like a clearcoat. Is it easier to polishing through it or if it's more like a SS paint a measure reading you don't want to get on the CF?

Very cool and great looking Lotus! I liked the darker shade of purple on the paint. Is it a strictly track car or is it registered for driving on roads too? Can only imagine the handling ability this little light weight mid engine car has and with the wheels far out in the corners. Then the supercharged engine to get it to power through the corners and reaching high speeds in between the corners. Just awesome!

Tony: CF is very similar to paint when it has been clear coated. It does hold heat a bit differently so you have to watch that. I've worked on different CF's and each one is different, some hard, some soft/medium.

Car is road legal and registered...he picked it up this am and went right to Cars&Coffee with it! A super cool and fun car!
 
For those who've never been in one of these it's incredible how small the steering wheel is, it's almost like something from Forza, LOL
