2007 Mustang GT - Black Paint Help Needed

I am looking forward to trying the M210. Not having dealt with soft paint like this before, I just haven't had those kinds of products in hand.

None if my buddies have come across this so they had no idea what to recommend. Guidance was more of if I was in error or the car. It really seems that I'm just limited by what I have on hand. My discussions with them were finally how I felt it was soft paint and it was just over my knowledge and respectfully theirs. What worked on my buddies 2014 Mustang GT, marred my paint lol. That led me to post on these forums because sometimes you just have to know when to ask for help. Situations like this are why professional detailers can and should charge 400-600 per step of correction.

Hopefully I can clear it up this weekend using the new polishes.

I am just going to use my nice collinite wax as my LSP for now. I'd do Poorboy's under it for extra gloss.

I just caught up to this thread. I book marked this thread from the sister site a number of years back. At the time, I had a jet black BMW 3 series that had marring issues due to the softness of the clear. This helped me tremendously. To this day, I still employ this method to a degree when I am in a bind with super soft clear. M210 was later designed to address this so it might resolve your issue without doing this method.

That is an interesting technique. Another forum member sent a similar video the other day.

If it comes to that for this car, I'll just stay up with black hole haha. Not worth it to me.

Hoping menzerna Sf3500 or Meg's m210 does the trick.

Menzerna 3500 on black pad, speed 5 on my new griot's G9. Wow this is effortless!!!

Research pays off. This is coming out so good.

M210 was ok but still a bit marring.

It's amazing the difference a polish can make. I tested a section after it was fully corrected with black hole. That is pretty impressive stuff. Just adds a deeper gloss to the black.

These pics are without black hole. Just polished paint and oils removed using CarPro Eraser.

I really want to thank everyone who has helped out. I'm glad it wasn't my technique but rather soft paint and having to change polishes. I think it's a testament to why it's important to read even if you aren't dealing with exact issues as are posted online. From years of reading, I suspected the soft paint and people here helped confirm that and offer suggestions...very helpful. I had read Mike Phillips say 99% of cars can be finished off beautifully with SF3500 on a black pad. He knows his stuff for sure.

I'll be sure to post more pics once I finish off my Mustang.

I figured I would attach a few more Pictures. I am blown away with the ease of the Menzerna SF-3500. It does dust but way less than M101 from what I remember.

I added the blackhole over my swirl free finish and it added a deeper gloss and filled in any very minor imperfections I could only see under the most intense light. Today I will top with Collinite 845 - my favorite wax ever :)

Nice job and good that you stuck with it to get it right.
I also would have been hesitant to ceramic coat it with the issues you were dealing with.
Now would be a good time...lock in the perfection and possibly increase the hardness of the surface at the same time.

looks great.... Glad you resolved it. This is why most of us prefer working on hard paint rather than finicky soft paint. Finishing down on soft paint can be very frustrating.

That looks great, nice work! Enjoy it, great looking car.

Thank you all! I appreciate it very much.

Looks like I will absolutely have to ceramic coat this car. I washed it once since finishing and noticed some faint marring on the hood and in a few places. Nothing insane, but it will drive me berserk. I did order some new car wash mitts from Autogeek to try in case my Meguiar's ones are too rough on the paint. I use different mitts for wheels/tires/rockers/ and body so I am very careful. 2 Bucket wash method always.

Soft paint sucks!

I figured I would post my review of the Griots Garage G9. I am really impressed with it.
