2008 Corvette Scratch Removal

watermark.php

Here is a picture of the hood. I ended up leaving the car as is and want to thank everyone for their opinion and you were all right that the M101 and Xtra cut disc was WAY to aggressive. I tried a small test spot that was not visible to anyone but me and I DID not like the results so I just stopped with that.

I have a quick question when going to M205. I start to use M205 with a white hex logic and I am seeing a small hint of yellow on the pad. I am hoping that it isn't the paint but I need some more insight.

Thanks in advance to all the great users helping me out.

When using M205, I am on speed 5 using about 10-12 lbs of pressure, so a little less than with M105 and doing about 4 section passes. So nothing too aggressive or long. Hopefully that will help any questions anyone will have about the process I am doing with the 205.

Velocity Yellow Tintcoat uses a tinted Clear Coat
to affect a change on the final color as viewed.

Having some of that tinted color show up on the buffing pads will occur...as part of the paint leveling process
is CC-paint removal.

But that doesn't mean you can go nuts with
the compounding/polishing steps, IMHO.

Mike Phillips has a thread where this "slight coloration" of the buffing pads occurred while correcting Crystal Red Metallic Tintcoat. Let me see if I can locate it for you.

Here you go; from this thread:

Here you can see the tint in the tinted clear coming off the car as we compound it and onto the face of the pad. This is nothing to worry about, keep in mind when you're doing any correction work on a clearcoat paint system you too are removing paint that is building up on the face of your buffing pad but because the paint is clear you won't see it build-up on the face of your pad.

Thanks a lot Bob. That is a great explanation and now I can continue on. Is 4 sections passes good enough for M205?

That is something I cannot say with assurance...
from my current location. :)

Do you have a "swirl-finder" light source, that you
can utilize for this purpose, especially on the "test spot"?

That way, IMO, you'll be more apt to know, first-hand:
what your processes are accomplishing along the way.
