This car was brought to me for a winter storage prep, and bringing the paint back to where it was when he bought it. He had been being pretty careful, by using the 2BM, but no Grit Guards, and I don't know what kind of soap, wash procedure, drying procedure, but I know he was using Nu-Finish wax as protection.

I had shown him on initial inspection, the level(lack) of protection he had, by first spraying a mist, which yielded no beading, just flat blobs with no height, then by pouring a cup of water on it, which left behind most of the water behind. I did an inspection of the whole car, and we discussed areas of concern, and what his goals were, and decided that getting the water spots and most of the scratches out was the main concern, so removal of those was the goal.

This is the car as I received it.

I proceeded to wash using a presoak snowfoam of Nanoskin Bubble bath with 1 ounce of LA Awesome APC to strip any remaining protection, and ive a clean surface to work with.

Once done, I clayed using Nanoskin Fine Grade Sponge and 7:1 glide as lube.

I was left with this, lots of water spots, and RIDS, mixed with light, but deep swirls

We upon initial inspection, I quoted him for a 1 step correction, and then sealant, but the water spots had etched themselves so deeply in to the paint that 1 step wasn't going to cut it.... A second step was needed for the horizontal surfaces(hood, roof, trunk).

For the cutting step, I used a white pad with FG400, and then finished with a black pad and Blackfire SRC finishing polish. I was happy with the result of that combo, so I did the whole car, wiped down with IPA, and sealed with Blackfire Wet Diamond.

This was the final result. He picked the car up at sunset, and As he pulled up, I opened the garage, and nosed the black beauty out, and as the pinks, blues, yellows, and purples of the sky hit it, his jaw literally dropped, and he was speechless for a few minutes, it covered the car in what I can only describe as liquid cotton candy. I tried to get pictures, but the colors go away so fast, by the time I went inside to grab my camera, and got back, they were gone, So I was left with the photos taken earlier in the day.

Thank you for your interest. I found the paint to be medium soft, and easy to finish well.

Very nice...job well done!! :dblthumb2:

Just an observation:
Most newer model years Corvettes have "fairly hard"
CC-paint.

I wonder what could've "softened-up" this one's?
Change of vendor; paint kitchen line speed-up;
trim department's paint refresh... :dunno:
I found the paint to be medium soft...
Regardless:
You figured it out.

I'm not sure what changed, but I found the paint on a Torch Red C5 Z06 to be pretty hard. This paint was more along the lines of the Nissan's I have done, and was a joy to work with. I was going to go at it with a more aggressive combo because of my experience with Vette paint, but I did a quick google search and found a post about the paint on specifically 2008 black Z06 paint being softer, so I started very light.

Very nice work. Such a great car. It's always a plus when the customer admires all the work that goes into a thorough detail.

Excellent work on that Corvette that Black paintwork will definitely be the center of attention

Great job, looks amazing. those water spots were crazy bad like it was perked somewhere outside with sprinklers hitting it every night.

That sure is quite a turnaround, from what initially looked like any other neglected daily driver to a show worthy well cared for vehicle. Bravo!

How long did it take to complete this job?

Roughly 11 hours

It is parked outside, I'm not sure of the arrangements, but I'm sure, whatever it was, the Nu-Finish wasn't helping matters any.

The owner was kinda embarrassed at the state that he had let it get to, since he bought it, but I think now, he will take better care of it, and leave it better protected in the future.

Thank you, everyone for the kind comments, It's nice sharing these projects with others who appreciate the work that goes in them as much as I do. HAve a wonderful day, everyone!
