I just bought a 2008 Corvette Z06 with 16k on the clock. Its has a beautiful Silver metalic paint job, called Machine silver. The car is in very good condition overall without any deep scratches BUT... Its not perfect. It has very minor spider webbing, a couple random "scuffs" and some hard water mineral spots on the top of the roof that i can see all in the flourecent light. It really just needs a light "clean up" in my opinion.

I currently have Griots DA polisher, LC orange, white, grey pads, m105, m205, and some Menzerna PO85rd, and i have Wolfgang Deep Gloss 3.0

My question is where should i start? Any recommendation on other compounds that would work better. If i use what i currently have should i start with m205 on the orange pad? M105 on the white pad? M205 on a white pad?

Thanks for your time

On a Vette, you will probably need to start with m105 on an orange pad. Corvette paint is notoriously hard. I would consider picking up some m101, works great on hard GM clear coats.

Agreed. Corvettes have hard paint.

I would also start a bit more aggressive than normal. I would plan on allowing time for a two step if need be and start with M105 on orange and M205 on white. This should knock out the defects in the paint.

I corrected a blue 08' Corvette a few months back, the Wolfgang Uber Compound worked very well for me, flawless results.
The 105 would work well also but not finish down as good as the Uber.

Actually, thinking about this more, I just used Menzerna fg400 on a white hybrid pad (flex 3401) on a dark blue Escalade as a one step using the smack technique and got very good results. Got everything but the deeper rids out, if your paint only has minor spider webbing this might be a good option for you.

I find that most Vette surfaces respond very well to Menzerna SIP and 085rd. I would start there !

I have the same car in black, I also have done several of these cars as well. This topic came up a few days. From my experience fg400 or sip1500 works great on these cars. I use either a orange or white polishing pad. I also follow up with sf4500. Trust me you will love the results

Won't hurt to have a good bunch of AG products on hand. Then do as Mike P would say, the "proverbial test spot"!

Hard paint, maybe yes, doing too much all at once, maybe yes again.

I suggest starting out as mild as possible.

I note this is how many professionals start, they don't rush to aggressive compounds, or polishes, they start out with finishing, mild polishes first, do a correction, then go back and "look".

Some deeper RIDS they go back and only then, correct some small areas that need such, and then again complete with a finishing polish before he final LSP goes on.

This is smart logical thinking IMO. More work, sure.

Time, this is a factor. With such a sweet vehicle, take time, think, assess, ask questions, as no question here is really dumb-stupid.

Better to do too little, than too much, and have later regrets.

Water spotting, you might look to a chemical process of removal, before grinding-polishing such nasties off, and removing precious paint.

Look to Carpro products, they make a spot remover spray.

While you're looking at Carpro, pick up Iron-X, and a host of other great goodies they make.

And Dayum, I forgot to say the most important things.

A great big huge congrats on the purchase, and the very best of enjoyment to you!

Ok thanks for the advice, i have some brand new orange pads and so I think i will just go with what i know and start with a wash, clay bar, M105/orange pad, M205/white pad, and finally a sealer

Test Spot takes two minutes

If it needs a "light clean-up"....

Start with M205 and a White Pad

Least Aggressive method 1st

You can always increase the aggressiveness if you don't get what you want with the 1st Test Spot

What if the car was compounded 10 times by the previous owner?

Save as much CC as you can, while getting the results you want

I have the same car in black, used FG400 with hybrid orange pad and followed up with SF4000 with white hybrid pad. Some areas did not need that heavy correcting, those I went to white hybrid pad and PF1500, excellent "1-step" product, no need for anything else after, the finish is amazing. Overall, it all worked amazing. Sealed it up with Wolfgang Deep Gloss paint sealant, after the sealant cured, I put on a coat of callonite #915.

Ok this is the car AND THESE ARE CRAPPY iPHONE PICS!!! The only pics i have at the moment! I dont own a nice camera... Yet. AND... I also dont have any pics to post of the condition of the paint or the defects right now, sorry

I don't know if it's the IPhone camera's fault, or not...
But those wheels look pretty dirty! :D

Regardless: Nice Corvette!!
