Hello all. I been reading as much info and watching all the instructionals on Youtube as possible for the last couple of weeks. I did my first attempt at a full detail of my 2009 Daily driven toyota tacoma. Over all I am pretty pleased with the results except I couldn't buff out some tough water spots on the hood and roof of my vehicle.

Tools used Portacable 7424xp DA with Chemical guys foam pad set. Meguiars Clay bar kit, Meguiars Mirror glaze M105 and M205, Meguiars Ultimate Compound, Meguairs NXT tech wax 2.0 and 303 Aerospace protectant.

I got some new wheels and tires so I decided to do some under carriage cleaning. Some Simple green and a brush on my hands and knees. Came out pretty good.

Started off washing vehicle with dawn dishwashing soap to strip old sealant. Took a clay bar to all body panels. I then covered all trim panels and door handles with painters tape.

Next I started the buffing. Started with speed setting 6, Orange Pad and 5 pea sized dots of M205 finishing polish(least aggressive) and did a 2x2 section on the roof. Water spots and blemishes were still there so I tried Ultimate Compound with same pad in the same section. It took out a few water spots but there was still quite a bit left. Finally went to M105 Ultra Cut compound with Yellow(most aggressive) pad. Worked the same area and water spots still remained. Ended up doing the entire roof and hood with most aggressive combination and highest speed setting but I just couldn't get rid of the water spots. I made certain the pad was always spinning and used slow arm speed doing 3-4 section passes. After the buffing you can still feel the water spots, but I cant tell if its indented into the clear coat or raised above the clear coat. After this I was a bit discouraged but decided to keep going and finish the rest of my vehicle.

Heres a before polish pic.

Did the rest of the panels with orange pad and ultimate compound. There was a bunch of tiny scratches along the door and bed. I was able to get almost all of it out and got the side panels reflecting like a mirror. Finally I went and put on a sealant coat of NXT tech wax with DA and red pad. Did the trim with 303 aerospace protectant.

Heres the final product

I was wondering if any one can chime in on if they see any flaws in process? After seeing the pictures of water spots, can these even be buffed out? Feed back please Thanks for reading and I apologize if these pictures turn out huge.

Water spots like that can be a PITA. Did you try vinegar on them? I've had decent luck with vinegar on those types of spots. CarPro also makes a water spot remover. In reality since it's the roof, I would try to do the best you can and try to prevent more in the future. No one will really see it. Nice Taco!

Give the vinegar a shot or try Spotless by CarPro. Good looking truck too.

If they didn't polish out with M105/Yellow...Vinegar is pointless

I would suggest being more disciplined with your Test Spot

If the process does not work effectively on a 2'x2' section; it sure as heck is not going to work on the whole roof

It is possible that the waterspots are etched too deeply to be completely removed without more aggressive methods

I would suggest doing a Test Spot with Meguiar's DA Microfiber Cutting Pads with Meguiar's D300 Compound. Speed 4.5 on a DA. Moderate downward pressure. Slow arm movement (2" per second), 6 passes

I had the same issue on my car with almost the same color. I would stay away from using anything that is aggressive at this point. I used the carpro spot remover after trying about 3 different OTC products and none worked. The carpro worked like a champ and very easy. Just spray on and use a orange pad by hand in small sections and I'm willing to bet they disappear fast and easy. I even tried different polishes and compounds like Fg400 and they helped but didn't fix the issue. Carpro is the way to go imho.

Thanks all for the replies. I will look into Carpro product. Got bit by the cleaning bug. Just washed and sealed my wifes 2015 4Runner with some NXT 2.0 as well.
