This vehicle belongs to a repeat customer for whom I detailed his G35X earlier this summer (2009 G35x-DG nano polish recipient - Live2Detail).This is his pride and joy and I wanted to do a great job for him. The FX was going to get CQuartz. It is frequently washed at a car wash and has the resulting battle wounds to show for it. I used a great deal of touch up paint on it. Here we go:

As you can clearly see, this vehicle, for only being one year old, was going to be quite a challenge!

Wheels/Barrels/Wells/Tires:

Man I thought my old FX was all that and a bag of chips with its 20" wheels....this puppy has 21"ers!!! You really see through to the barrels on them too which of course had me immediately thinking....Peramanon.
The tires were cleaned with Zep Purple
The wheels and barrels were cleaned with Megs WB first, followed by Zep Citrus to neutralize the acid.
The wells were cleaned with Zep Citrus.

Afterward:

The wheels were polished by hand with M205 and a folded up white flat LCC pad.
The wheels were given an IPA wipedown and then sealed with CQuartz.
The barrels were shot with C2 (Permanon) in a pump sprayer a few hours after the CQ application and were then blown dry with the MB.
The tires were dressed with Opti Bond neat.
The wells were dressed with Adams.

Wash/Jams/Clay:

It was first foamed to remove any traces of wax and was then washed with a strong solution of 901 and Dawn. The jams were washed at the same time and rinsed out with the pw turned off to give a gentle spray.
The vehicle was then clayed with Riccardo yellow that was warmed in the microwave.

Paint Touch Up:

There were so many spots that needed to be filled that I had 2 sheets of paper with problem areas identified on them. The problem with Infiniti paint is that it is so hard to correct. (Taken on its own and out of context, you'd think I was nuts). What I mean by that is that the paint is so very, very, very thin that you need to completely rethink your aggressiveness in terms of pads and compound for fear of striking through. In many cases I would have loved to fill in the chips and then wet sand them flat. I sure couldn't with surrounding areas of 70 to 80 microns!! The whole car was in that range.
Therefore I broke out my Dr Chip kit that I had purchased for my own FX and used it on this one. I either filled it in with a toothpick or blobed an smeared. The kit does a good job of hiding the chip. Filling and wet sanding is still the better option IMO.

Paint Correction:

The paint was corrected with M105 and a yellow B & S pad followed by M205 and a white B & S pad. The plastic bumper on the back was initially corrected with a black wool TB pad prior to the a/m steps. As usual for me, all correcting and finishing was done with my Dynabrade.
The roof was done via DA with Surbuff pad and 105 followed by DG nano/501 followed by DG nano clear.

CQ Prep:

The car was washed with a strong solution of Dawn and 901 and then was blown dry completely with the MB. The CQ was applied and allowed to sit for at least 30 minutes. This was done to the paint, chrome and front glass. The other glass seemed to have been treated with something already. The paint was wiped down with ReLoad prior to delivery to add some slickness to the paint. Had I more C2, I would have used that.

Trim:

The trim was dressed with Ultima UTTG.

Interior:

The glass was cleaned with Zep.
The plastic was cleaned with Folex and the AG interior pad.
The leather was cleaned with OPC and the AG pad.
The leather was treated to Ultima Interior guard.
The plastic was treated to PERL at 1:1.
The wood was polished with DG beta/501 mix.
The carpets were vacuumed and steam cleaned.
The centre console was also steam cleaned.
All in all slightly more than 18 hours.

Thanks for looking.

Great job! I find it curious that you said the 2010 FX was his pride and joy; the before pictures showed alot of neglect and abuse. You did a great job in bringing it back!

BTW, I have a 2010 FX35 with similiar leather seats; do you like the performance of the Ultima Interior Guard on those leather seats? Any other recomendations for the leather care?

Again, great job!

Fussman, I know he's busy so that might explain why he doesn't have time to keep it up better. Car washes is all it gets, but he is very fond of it nonetheless. I know you KNOW what I mean, being an FX owner yourself. I had a 2004 FX35 black/brick that I loved. As far as the leather goes, UTTG did a good job on it. I applied it with a sponge and let it dwell for about 10 minutes and wiped off any residual. That gives it nice protection (including waterproofing) and a nice look. What colour is your FX?

Another pro job Richy! Magnificent makeover. I have always loved that body style. Just think, in a few months your beautiful green lawn will be white with snow. :caflag:

What colour is your FX?[/QUOTE]

Umbria Twilight with Wheat Interior with Maple Interior Accents. AWD; they sure are fun cars and they really stand out!

I am leaning toward using the Ultima Interior Guard for the leather seats.

Thnaks again!

Yes, that's what I meant to say..not UTTG. I used UTTG on the outside trim.

Nice work! I love the new generation FXs and the 50S is a complete animal. (I am an Infiniti #####) You did a great job bringing it back!

Thank you and I agree completely. I love what they did with the front end..it looks mean. And it SOUNDS mean too. Awesome ride for sure.

These things are just ridiculously fast for what they are and that front end coming up behind you? Yea, i'd move lol.
