Had my work cut out for me today...this is one big mother! 4 door long bed! A lot of real estate to cover. Single stage white paint was dull, lifeless and chalky.

Plan of attack: wash, clay with nano, Flex 3401 w/a BAP (big ass pad) I used a 7" hex logic pad, I usually only use 5.5" pads, but there was a ton of paint to cover...Megs D151, topped with Megs 'new' paint protect, Blackfire tire gel, Griot's HD wheel cleaner, Adam's glass cleaner, DP total interior cleaner. I think that's it...

Truck has really never been touched in it's lifetime. A few scratch and swirl washes, I think that's about it.

Paint is just dead looking.

Ah! A little life is starting to show!

Now that's better!

Hard on the pads...

Lifeless...

Getting there!

So much for this factory ad on! LOL

Done!

Megs paint protect was easy to use...went on/off easily and a little went a LONG way. Will have to see how the durability is.

Thanks for looking!

Nice! That is a lot of paint to cover.... Interested to see how the paint protect holds up too.

Truck looks great.
Not sure if you'll know the answer to this, but isn't all pure white Toyota paint up until 2012 single stage?

I did t realize there was still single stage paints being used... I though that stopped in the middle d 80's?

Thought all cars now a days were 2 stage...

No...the Toyota Red is single stage...not sure when that stopped. I think they call the Toyota white Arctic White.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but in my searches I found a lot of references to Toyota single stage paint up until 2012 I believe. My mother's white 08 Camry needs a little work so I'm going to test it.

The color pictured is Super White paint code 040. It is still used today on 2015 Tacoma's and base model Tundras.

Super White paint code 040 Camry's too

Thanks, I detailed my mother's Camry a couple years ago. I was positive it was single stage. She had some collision damage repaired and I had one body shop tell me the code showed it was three stage paint. I knew that was bs. It's a pure white not Pearl. Then the second body shop told me it was base/clear. Padding the bill I suspect.

Awesome results! I love the before/after pic with the reflection of the fluorescent strip light. Zero reflection on the "before" side. Wow.

I would think the white residue on the pad pictured would indicate there is no clear coat on that paint. My 2005 Tundra does the same thing the few times I let it get that bad.

This makes sense to me now. Back when I was first starting detailing, I had a white Camry and white Tacoma in the same week that had heavily oxidized roofs. I didn't know much about paint but called my buddy both times telling him it looks like the clear coat is gone and it wouldn't polish good.

Yep, single stage paint will 'get' you every time when you are not expecting it! LOL

Honda also uses single stage on their non pearl whites. Not sure if its true of the 2016's but I know up until 2013 it was single stage.
