Confirmed: 2011 Ford Mustang GT to offer 412-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 — Autoblog

Thanks to a loose-lipped Facebookian that couldn't help sharing insider information and a quick follow-up post from Inside Line, we can now confirm the return of the iconic 5.0-liter Mustang GT for 2011. Even better news is the fact that the Mustang GT's new mill will crank out an impressive 412 horsepower.

By way of comparison, the 2010 Chevy Camaro SS has a 6.2-liter V8 with as much as 422 horses when mated to a six-speed manual and the 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8 has a 6.1-liter Hemi that offers 425 ponies. And remember, both of those rivals are considerably heavier than the Mustang.

As much as we'd like to unload more goods on the 2011 Mustang, you'll just have to wait until Ford's good and ready. Or someone blows another embargo, whichever comes first.

EDIT: More specs are now available the "embargo" has been lifted. Ford actually got their heads out of there butts far enough to build an impressive GT.

The curb weight is not set in stone yet it's just an estimate as of now. I hope if doesn't get that heavy.

I love the new body styles on the 2010 s197's. I may trade my terminator in for one

YESSS!!! Now my Lincoln can have someone to kiss and admire in the garage each night! I am X'ing out the base camaro SS and gettin my stang! I loved loved loved the Fox body 5.0's.... but I want to buy something new when I am graduated so this will be my garage queen/weekend driver!! I am so pumped! 6 Spd you think?

OH OH OH.... and they BETTER and I mean BETTER put the 5.0 emblem on the front fenders! It will be a huge dissappoint if they don't!

I think the auto is 6 speed and stick is still 5 speed. But we will see, it makes more power then the 03/04 cobra's on boost. DOHC 5.0 is awesome and proving to make good power. I'm hoping it has a good power band (broad).

lol a lot of 5.0 guys are hoping for the same.

Good condition termi's are holding there value, but from what I'm hearing this is suppose to be the best GT ever produced (as per Chris Ihara owner of corral.net). He won't say much more since he is not allowed too but he does have inside info via Ford.

My terminator dyno'd at 380rwhp/373 rwtrq when it was stock...lets not jump to conclusions until we see this stang on the dyno :dblthumb2:. My terminator is now pushing over 600bhp with a ported factory blower.

I would love to see the new 5.0 with a six-speed manual and slap a whipple on it.

Cool to see the muscle wars heating back up. Now who'll be the first to 475.

I'm well aware of them being underrated and I'm hoping this one is as well. 412 is quit a jump in the GT models, @ 412 they should be putting down around 385ish to the wheels.

And they are sooo sooo sooo light! It will be a camaro killer! Man... hopefully they will put the 6 spd manuals in these...

Yeah Chevys idea of the larger displacement never seemed to work. The only thing they did right was the corvette which squashed the war with the viper.

Hey Wystang,
Are you a Ford Fusion Club member? My brother was strolling through my posts and saw that your on there.... his name is 5spdsel52.... weird huh? haha

i doubt they will have 6spd since right now only GT500 has that as far as i read, what about torque numbers?

That is a sexy car with some ponies under the hood :xyxthumbs:

I like my S2k :dblthumb2:

Yes I am, the UN is fimiliar. Is his car red? If it is who I think it is he recently lowered it and cleaned it up and looked real good.

So, by now you've heard that the new powerplant puts out 412 ponies, or 83 horsepower-per-liter. Now, AW wants you to know it also offers up 390 pound-feet of torque and that peak power comes at a screaming 6,500 RPM.

And what about the transmission? Your choice of either the 6R80 automatic transmission or the MT82 six-speed manual.

Dam thats suck's. There sticking with a mod motor design. I would prefer it be slightly less powered and be a push rod style 5.0. But I am only imagine what those things are going to do under a simple boost application. Which I am hoping the design is similar to the 5.0/5.3 stroked DOHC Mach motor's if so! Your going to see some nasty KB, Whipple and Turbo ones running around in the first year of production!

Even if its under rated and makes say 430 to the crank its going to put about 350-360 to the ground. Most of the TR6060 trannies are about 15% loss through the drivetrain from the factory!
