2013 Hyundai Sonata - first detail

Have been needing to detail this car for a couple of weeks but other things got in the way.

Here's the "dirty bird" before complete with a layer of pollen on top of the normal dirt from driving in Houston traffic.
 
Process:

Wash with Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash
Clay Bar with Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit
Polish with Klasse All-In-One
Seal with Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze
Finish with Pinnacle XMT Carnauba Finishing Glaze


This is my first detail attempt. It was a lot of work but well worth it. Happy with the results.
 
Looks good, especially for a first. How long did you wait before applying the XMT carnuaba glaze?

Thanks. It was over 12 hours , put the Klasse sealer/ glaze on Sat eve and did not start applying XMT til mid-morn on Sunday.
 
Plenty of time to cure. I really like the finish XMT glaze gives dark colors. Never topped it over Klasse thought. You'll have to update the thread in about 30 days to let us know how it holds up.
How about the RV though?:)

Ha ha! The RV will have to wait, it has a nice protected parking spot right now in my In-Laws 50x50 metal building in place of their RV which is in the shop. My wife's Tahoe needs some attention, it is next in line.

In the meanwhile as we are heavy into pollen season, my Sonata had a thorough coating on it by the time I left work yesterday. My wife called me from the baseball park where I was headed to watch one of my grandsons play and she said "You aren't going to be happy with this setup! The pavement consists of crushed concrete and there is white dust flying everywhere! It's going to mess up your work". I said oh well it's already got a layer of pollen on it so a little dust won't make that much difference. Funny enough, the dust was gone from the car by the time I got home (after a few freeway miles) but the pollen was still clinging. I gently wiped it down with a clean microfiber towel. Had a Dr. appt. this morning and took advantage of covered parking in the garage. By the time I got to the office though, I had a fresh coat of pollen in place again. Oh well, at least it will clean up easily enough now.

My son-in-law has been using the XMT as topping over the Klasse. Since the Klasse and XMT were on loan on a trial basis, I will be sending those back to him and buying my own stuff. Not sure yet what I will be using.
 
I think it looks great. A whole lot better than my first attempt! (Which will never be discussed on this or any other forum.)
 
Nice SONATA! My wife has the SONATA 2.0T and loves it, great job on the detail:)
 
Nice work, I'm a big Klasse fan myself. If you didn't already, hit the wheels and glass with AIO also. Makes the brake dust fall right off.

The car is only a few weeks old so the wheels cleaned up really well with just the Gold Class wash and a microfiber mitt. I will keep that in mind though as I know the windshield in particular will probably need attention pretty quickly with all the debris that gets kicked up from the Houston freeways.
 
Nice job on the Sonata, they look so good and so does yours now! Not sure a glaze was needed after KSG and nuba though but nonetheless, great work.

Just curious, did you hand apply the KAIO? Did the paint need any correection? If so, did the KAIO do anything in that department? I ask because it usually doesn't do too much in that department but then again its not supposed to really.

I did apply the KAIO by hand. Paint did not need correction but one of the the moderators here recommended that I do the polishing step before the sealant. It looked really, really good after the AIO.

Oh yeah for sure KAIO before the sealant but you should see how KSG responds to a 2nd coat 12 hrs later:dblthumb2:
 
I had thoughts about a 2nd KSG coat but I just did not have the time. Especially after finding out how much work/time was involved in removal after it dries. Wow, did not anticipate that.

I'm not a SEARCH guy at all but in this case it would've saved you a lot of heartach/headache/backache and arm-hand ache. KSG should always be applied with a damp applicator first and foremost. Also, to make application easier, pour it into a small spray bottle and all you'll need is one squirt per panel, keep the pad damp and wipe on in one direction and go over it inanother direction to ensure proper and complete coverage and here's the impoortant part......DO NOT WAIT FOR IT TO DRY, WIPE OFF ASAP! This product is an acrylic and doesn't need to haze or anything, just wipe on like I said and take off right away. If its hard to take off your either using too much (which can happen) or your pad is getting dry....or a combo of both. KSG works the best when you follow my simple steps and returns a great finish and great durability but you really wanna add that 2nd step after 12 hrs, really makes a difference. The 1st time I used KSG was on my then brand new Crossfire Limited in Aero Blue and I couldn't believe the difference, car just gleemed and looked wet like I had never seen any other car look before, from then on I was hooked and have always had Klasse in my arsenal.

LOL, so I guess I screwed up by following the directions on the Klasse container. I will have to try your method next time.
