Although I don't have enough pictures for a full thread, hope I can share this experience through some shots I could take from this (intensive) work.

- VW GOL is synonymous of popular car in Brazil.

For 27 years now, Gol is best seller in Brazil and in 2013 people bought 255.071 units.

This car is very functional, it's known by the good performance and durability, sturdy and cheap maintenance. Generally this is the car that companies buy for employees who needs to travel a lot. It's the 'daily driver in essence'.

It's not a luxurious car (far from it), but it can offers (the expensive versions) mainly the major comfort and tech items, maintaining everything in a very basic fashion.

The cheaper versions may have 2 doors, non-hydraulic steering wheel, any electronic (manual windows and side mirror) and a 1.0l engine. Very simple. This was the 1.6l complete version.

It's also an easy target for thieves, the most robbed car ever... :/, that to maintain the parallel market of auto parts.

This black 2013 Gol 1.6 had lots of bad swirls and many scratches, waterspots, also hologram I've had to 'fight with'. The defects were so instilled in paint that they went almost all the way down, which made me struggle to finish flawless over them on this soft black paint.

Using a cautious approach, I've slowly and carefully polished the entire car with SF4000 on white and yellow hybrid pads - followed by same polish on gray flat pad to achieve an acceptable finish.

Some before pictures are at car arrival, in 'dirty as it is' condition.

According to owner, car was in 'good condition', only dirty. Im the MAN

Criteria of correction was dictated by my 'horror finder light'. It won't forgive any (even the finest) swirl, so if it looks great under it, it'll look great mostly anywhere.

Car was fully washed and detailed from top to bottom, starting from wheels (?!) haha

We all see swirled / hologram cars everyday, but how bad is this?

The Test Spot - Asking the paint

Test spot started with Menzerna PF2500 on white hybrid pad (Upper part of Picture above tape line), but soon I've noticed I should try SF4000 on same pad (Lower part of Picture bellow tape line).

That's because I've experienced correction of defects but also some haze with PF2500. You can notice correction level was pretty similar, but personally looking SF4000 finished way better.

One more test spot with SF4000 on white until I feel secure of my decision:

Anyway I had to finish it out with a gray finishing pad. Those swirls were so well installed that won't came out totally in a single step!

The sides were bothering me the most, so I've tackled them after test spots to see how they would correct:

Still inspecting closer

I always try to move the car in and out (when possible) for re-inspection under different conditions:

Door handle (driver's side) progress observed at the same condition as above. Still needed improvement on this part as demonstrated by during picture:

(When Arrived it was only a popular car looking for the light at the end of the tunnel)

If asked / payed / needed to, I would tackle those RIDS with some localized sanding, but that was not the purpose of this work. Let's remember it is a DD!

This was a very challenging work that was done with much passion summed up with all knowledge I could get from you, AGO family.

Thank you everyone for watching,

And sorry for the lack of beautiful 'beauty shots'.

I appreciate Any question, comments, critics, always welcome.

EDITED: All work done using Flex 3401 polisher.

Kind Regards.

Nice job removing those defects on that black beauty nice job

Hello, thank you very much!

I forgot to mention above, I've used Flex 3401 (added now).

I can't stress enough how much I enjoy this polisher. It's mechanism of action is very effective yet safe for polishing paint.

I like being able to use all 6 speeds, which makes it capable of tackling virtually any work.

I also enjoy the way it's handled, the action trigger, the speed adjustment at hand, the smoothness, low vibration, the (relative) lower noise compared to conventional DA, there are so many good things about it I can't list them all. It's a true workhorse while being a gentle instrument for doing detailing art.

If I can add anything to the answer, please, let me know.

Kind Regards.

Awesome work. Just as we always expect to see from your posts.

Beautiful work Rafael! That was a complete turnaround! That DD looks much better now!

I see your skills are improving with every job. Keep up the outstanding work Rafael. You are on the right track.

After reading the entire write up, I understand you did a two step on that car correct? If so why didn't you grab FG400 to kill everything and return with SF4000?

Amazing job bYou brought the car back to life. I can't wait for a few nice days so I can tackle my truck. Not easy without a garage. Thanks for sharing.

A result like that insures a happy, and returning customer!

Maybe you can educate him on the proper wash method to avoid having to do a repeat repair job in the future. and just a monthly maintenance.

I do have a question about cars in Brazil. Do very many run on straight ethanol? Many years ago I was visiting and rode a friend's Yamaha motorcycle that ran on Ethanol. But it also has a tiny gasoline tank that was used just for cold starts. And after just a few seconds it would switch over to Ethanol a little at a time so that after about a minute it was running on straight Ethanol. The cars were all fuel injected and would start from dead cold on straight Ethanol but there were still quite a few gas only cars but they cost a lot more to drive.

Are all the cars now Ethanol only? Or are they dual fuel?

I'm really happy reading your comment, thanks for that.

Great work :xyxthumbs:

That thing was trashed!

Thank you Davey, you see, how a new car (~6-8 months old at maximum) can get like that?...

Awesome work! That car was bad!

Thank you mate.

That's kind Michael, thank you for posting. Being the paint so soft and the haze I've faced with PF2500, I had to decide (fast!) a way to do the less amount of steps possible. That's because I was charging an 1-step polishing followed by cleansing and coating, and not a for a full correction.

That means, the second step went 'for free', but because I couldn't release that car in such state. I haven't step up for a coarser product being afraid of having to do 3-steps, that would be way beyond the deal.

It was two SF4000 steps, one on white / yellow and the second on gray pad over the whole vehicle.

Best Wishes!

Very nice!

Bob :)

Thanks for comment, Bob!

Heck of a job there on that beat up VW.

Thank you Eddie!

Hi. Ethanol only cars are not the way to go here. Things went through the bi-fuel way, what we call 'FLEX' -> Ethanol or Gas. Mainly every car after ~2009-2010 (even some earlier) are FLEX / bi-fuel.

But this is not good in my opinion, since ethanol costs are coming higher every month, and car consumption goes way higher with ethanol... That means, Flex cars are NOT as good as gas only cars, and ethanol consumption is high... so the bi-fuel is not great with any of the two. Sad!

This is a very political question that we (consumers) have to pay.

The fuel pump for engine start is common, since ethanol 'struggle' to start engine on cold days.

Hope I've helped!, please, ask if anything left.

Kind Regards.

Amazing work and documentation Rafael :props:

Thanks for commenting James, I appreciate your thoughts.

Hope someday I may detail a 'Black Horse' just like yours! This Gol was a 'black poney' lol

Kind Regards.
