2015 Challenger Hellcat

And I'm not sure the factory 5-speed is able to handle the added torque. It's a pretty archaic setup as it sits.

What did you mean by the 300 is going away soon... Does that mean just yours or did they announce no redesign? I thought it was a staple of their lineup?

The 300 SRT will be no more. I believe the C and other models will be around however the only SRT's left are Charger, Chally and Jeep of course the Viper too. Dismal sales of the 300 and identical option packages between the Charger and 300 and the reasoning behind dropping the SRT 300.

Wonder if they are going to give the option to install a factory supercharger on previous SRT models. Would sure love that on my Bee.

I'm not 100% sure what the point would be on that particular option, as the cam, computer, injectors, fuel and oiling system, pistons, and trans at the bare minimum would need to be changed/upgraded to go Forced Induction. And you likely wouldn't get any type of factory warranty on the setup.

Better bet would be to take it to a shop like Arrington, PWR, AMP, etc., and let them do the work.

There are bolt-on kits that you could do yourself if mechanically inclined, but I would seriously limit the boost to 6-8 PSI for the older 6.1L and even more conservative on the newer 6.4L.

Another poster mentioned pistons popping and that is indeed correct, but the speculation on why is still unconfirmed. Some think the last ring land is way too close to the piston face (somewhere around 3mm), others mention the ring gaps being overly tight for emissions purposes and when heated on boost, they meet and buckle popping the ring land at the top. Also, the use of the hypereutectic pistons makes the window for detonation forgiveness even lower.

I suspect pulling apart one of the Hellcat engines would yield the answer from the Chrysler Tech standpoint, unless of course they change both ring gap and land distance, then it's still a guess as to what the real culprit is.

Initial reports state the 6.4L have been popping at lower boost numbers than the 6.1L, but only by about ~2PSI. Anyway, 8lbs of boost seems to be the limit for many on stock internals, and if you're going to go though the process, might as well do it right the first time.

I'm more interested in what kind of tires they can possibly put on this beast to hold 600HP to the pavement.

I like my 6.1L bone stock, save a few minor upgrades like the air intake (makes it sound meaner on WOT) and a tuner so I could tweak a few things. All told, if I've even added 20HP to the car I'd be surprised. It's got enough power to break loose on the street anyway if I inadvertently goose the pedal a bit too hard to merge on the freeway or pass. More power is simply going to be wasted. I can't afford all the hobbies I have now, much less adding going to the track and tearing things up.

Were I to go this route and need to have one, I think I'll let someone else drive it for a couple of years and take the depreciation discount.

Well that is dumb... Best bang for the buck sedan on the market. I love my GC SRT8 but am worried they won't want to engineer the gearbox on the hellcat to handle the all wheel drive. And with EPA standards tightening it will still be a gas hog... Might be running my rig into the ground.

I have to disagree. I'd like to see this thing against the new z28 with "only" 505 HP.

I like the old school stuff. Stop light to stop light. Or 1/4 mile, lets see what you got. Just knock you back in your seat torque. Nothing like it.

Wife said I can get one but doesn't want to sell the Shelby. She said it's like the family dog and has been with us since we got married. Don't have a covered space for it and it's gonna be $$$$, that's probably why she said I can get it lol

I have an extra garage slot for ya - just have to leave it in California and fly out to drive it. I won't even charge you a rental fee for the space, just access to the Hellcat!

It's going to be a beast! Finally Dodge stepped up, everyone one thought low 600's. If they did their homework on the suspension and handling it will be the top dog.

Its got the power, no doubt but any chance of Jenny Craig making an appearance? Handling, braking and performance would also benefit from this, making the perf even that much better.

I wonder how long they're going to continue with this platform?

Now if you were young enough and could resist driving it. Buy it and stuff it in a garage. The Hemi Cuda of the future.

How much will it REALLY end up costing?

Since it will not be made in "all the public wants to buy" numbers the dealers will be tacking on HUGE added dealer profit charges. I wouldn't be surprised if the first two thousand in the pipeline all go for over 100K

Remember what the early 03 Cobras and GT500s sold for? UNBELIEVABLE MARKUPS!!!

^^ that's true. The 470hp srts aren't as fast as German v8 amg. Something needs to be done I'm sure.

I believe Chrysler nixed that from dealers. Some unscrupulous dealers did that I believe for vipers and Chrysler said next year don't get any.

I think given the weight of the car it HAD to have that much Horsepower. I honestly think it won't match a ZL1/Z28 on a road course. 1/4 Mile might be a different story if it doesn't roast his tires spinning all the way through 3rd gear with those stock tires.
