Exceptional job of maintaining your wife's car! I love the streamlined regimen.
Very similar to my neighbor's car I'll be giving a freebie to soon. Couple quick questions if you don't mind:
- I was under the impression Subaru paint is soft. What clay do you use and do you get any marring?
- Is your McKee's paint sealant have any correcting ability or simply a sealant? I'm assuming I could substitute any sealant like WGDGPS, Maguiars Hybrid Ceramic Wax, or 303 Graphene spray coating I have in my arsenal?
Thanks in advance. I think you just saved me a few hours for the freebie I'll be doing soon if I can approach it the way you did!
Sure, let see how I can help.
The big issue is clay marring. In my case, zero clay marring on the Subaru.
Tried everything under the sun to find marring---none!
Instead of correcting, I just went straight to sealant. Done....
Been doing it this way for 6 years. Paint just seems to get better and better each year! (Note: probably my imagination)!
Believe the paint is on the harder side. It appears that the lighter the color, harder the paint. Plus paint on the lighter side with flakes helps hides swirls more.
The McKee's High Def sealant is a straight sealant. By using the yellow Rupes pads, it cuts and polishes the paint using the High Def sealant as a lubricant. I've done 2 cars this way.
Did a lime green Hellcat and wife's Subaru this way! Later tonight--I'll see if I can find the Hellcat 50/50 just using yellow pad and McKee's sealant.
I think you'll be good with what you have on hand except the spray coating. Believe you'll going to need some abrasive step in order to clean and smooth out paint with the yellow or even a white pad.
I used the fine clay mitt from Griots: (The yellow one).
Just before winter hits, just wash and then that's when you can try the spray on stuff....
Hope that helps..
Tom
