Thanks kindly Dean!Sweet. Better than new, indeed!
And it never ceases to amaze me how some goof who works at a Mercedes dealer thinks he has the authority to speak lies about someone that he has no idea about. If you had actually bothered to read my post (which why would you when it's more fun to spread lies), you would have seen where I had described removing only a negligible amount of paint. I clearly stated that I was taking measurements before and afterward to ensure no measurable paint removal was occurring. But you say "give it to a detailer to remove a large portion of the clear coat..." How dare you. Your lies are not welcome here. Take your condescending comments and go elsewhere. You don't even post any work. That alone says everything. It never ceases to amaze me, that people will pay $20k-$80k for a BRAND new vehicle and then give it to a detailer to remove a large portion of the clear coat, just to have their daily driver be treated like a daily driver.
Thanks Don! My 3 favourite hobbies: polishing paint, smoking cigars and listening to rock..all at the same time!!Great work as usual. Burnin a good cigar while buffing a car, doesn't get much better than that!
Thanks. I believe I've addressed his misguided comment with my response to it.A large portion of the clear? Are you serious? Maybe a hack with a rotary. But I doubt Rick took a large portion...
Thanks kindly. I thank you for taking the time to comment.Always a pleasure to see your work !
Thanks so much!Beautiful work!
Yes, it has been great for me and this car is the PERFECT example of why it is so needed!! You can never assume!!How do you like the Highline Meter II? I am thinking about pulling the trigger
Gosh,m Ron, If I did that...maybe it would be measuring in negative numbers!!!! LOLNice job Richy. 70 microns is scary..did you do a measurement under the hood?
Thanks Mike! Honda too, eh? I know what I'm staying away from.Nice work as always! The Honda CRZ comes with 2.5 mils factory!
Thank you for the comment and for taking the time to make it!Mazda came along way very luxurious
My pleasure Bill. I love using that method.I somehow missed that when you posted it, Rich, but thank you for the link. That is awesome.
FYI, 2009 and up newer Mazdas, no longer have a prImer layer. They have been combining basecoat and primer into one. It chips real easy and has extra orange peel. The first time I took readings on my Mazda I nearly had a heart attack. My readings were closer 110-125um.

Thanks kindly Dean!\

If what apme123 says is true, than by taking a no clear coat reading might give you a good idea how much clear your really have.
If primer and base coat are one than total thickness might be less then normal.

Thanks kindly Scott!Lookin great Richy. Nice work as always.
LATA is La's Totally Awesome APC (the yellow one)(I will be trying out their orange one next). It's available at dollar stores; check your area. Heck, we even have them here in Canada now!!What's LATA that you used on the tires? Also how do you compare CQ and CQF? I'm bummed I can't buy CQF.
Maybe the paint is synonymous with single stage toilet paper....if you push too hard, you're in poop!!Can confirm about paper thin paint AND glass thickness. A brand new Mz3 already have millions paint chips. A windshield looks like sand blasted. Also, steel is thinnest in the world, probably a little bit thicker than four times folded wrapping foil. The paint can be scratched by flying birds' dropping, you think I'm kidding?! That is how I ended up with PBWBH glaze (which didn't work applied by hand).
Weird, I never did a thickness reading on my 2010 Mazdaspeed3 but I put over 102,000 on the car and I never had an issue with stone chips or a windshield that looked like it was sandblasted. I drive 62 miles a day for work (85% highway) and travel to southern Indiana from Detroit once a month for work. My paint looked awesome!
BTW, nice work as ALWAYS Richy!

Well said :xyxthumbs:, I will call it one-ply paint and steel. A quick guglee search will reveal sorrows of new mazdas metal, glass and paint thickness.
Awesome job, since I know how really dangerously thin this paint is.
skyactive technology in that paint I guess....just goes to show how they cut corners everywhere
