Forums used to be the way to get answers to questions before the big Social Media bang. You could talk on forums like we do now, but obviously with a much bigger audience. Then, you’d make friends and have AOL IM to do instant messaging.

Of course there was the WBS chat room around 1996, but it was about like a forum. You’d post in a chat room, then press a F6 to refresh for new post or it would auto refresh. They had a ton of chat rooms.

Then, we had Teamspeak before Skype. Most haven’t heard of it unless you player PC games in the early 2000’s. Someone would pay $30 for the server. Give out the IP and Port number to whoever you wanted to join, then you all would meet up to chat, scrim or whatever those World of Warcraft nerds did.

Not sure where it went after that. I got out of gaming in 2010 and haven’t really touched it much. I know FB is replacing forums, but it’s not as good. A program named Discord replaced Skype/AOL IM.

So, until a new platform comes out to dethrone YouTube (look at rumble.com), Facebook and Discord. That’s were most will flock to since it’s promoted by the big companies and is easily accessed.

1. Mike Phillips left

2. Stupid political arguments turned people away

3. Alot of Old heads [i.e. Paulmys] are stubborn to try new things, while Millennials were more accepting of coatings. However millennials are too tech savy to use forums, hence the slow death we’re experiencing here.

I feel that some tech is "good enough" and this forum is that, good enough and I mean this in a good way

Hey Ric........ There are two V's in "Savvy".

That's the real reason for the decline. People in LA can't spell.........:laughing::laughing:

But yeah, forums require a bit of thought. A well-worded question, and then responders must actually think about a response, then type it.

I believe this is becoming "too complicated" for this Twitter/Tic-Tok/IG generation. I saw a story recently where not ONE of these kids that were interviewed could actually write a letter, put it in an envelope, purchase a stamp, and find a mailbox to mail it. They had ZERO clue what the interviewer was even talking about..... "What's a Letter??"

And God help us when that skill is lost............

Oh, hey Paul, I didn’t think you’d see this. Lol

OP I am glad you asked the question. I've been wondering the same thing. I was hoping the answer was that there was a different forum that was more active.

At this point, forums are a much more refined means of chatting about things than fb.

If I do say so myself, the crowd on AG is of a higher intellect level than social media crowds seem to be, and AG’ers often take more than 20secs to write out their thoughts and responses.

If you don’t understand what I mean, try selling something for $20 or less on fb marketplace. Those are the folks you’re swimming with..

To be fair though marketplace is a whole different thing VS being in a detailing specific group and asking questions. Marketplace sucks indeed just like Kijiji.

FB Marketplace has saved me many trips to the dump! You'll get about 100 messages the minute you post something for free. It's usually the 2 or 3 I can understand that get the items.

The AGO FB following is nothing at all like the forums here. It surprises me to see the difference so your point is 100% spot on.

The original Autopia forum was great, with Ron Kecham a regular contributor. Since this current forum frowned on non-PBPA products, it eliminated many useful discussions.

My 2 cents.
