In Feb I bought a new PC7424xp kit from CG because I was new to all this and they had the pads I wanted to run. Within a day or 2 it started making noises and in less than a week it died! Yes I was using a washer and no the backing plate was not touching anything. I was running 5.5 in hex logic pads using M105/205 on a speed of 5.

I call CG and they send FedEx to retrieve it. I get the run around and finally after 3 weeks they admit its bad and send me another one.

During that time I borrow one from a friend that's a Detailer and it works awesome with my backing plate, washer, pads etc.

I take my new one out of the box today and within 2 hours its making noises too!

It sounds like its chewing rocks! The noise is from the end where the gears etc are.

I think it's time for a Rupes!

You're bad luck with the PC is definitely an exception. The PC is one of the most reliable DA ever made when you consider how many have been sold.

I've been using mine (a lot) for four years now with no problems.
Sound like it might be a quality issue with a particular production run.

I wonder if the second unit was a reconditioned one. I try to avoid reconditioned ones so not sure if both issues are related. For example, your first unit goes back, gets fixed, put in box, and resent as replacements.

Don't want to sound insulting, but is the washer on the backing plate?

Bill

Yes as I stated in original post the washer is on.

CG sent my old one back to PC and wanted me to wait even longer for it back and I couldn't do that so they sent me a complete new unit. Nowhere on any of the paperwork or packaging does it say its refurb.

Yeah the one I borrowed wasn't "quiet" by any means but it did not sound like it was grinding rocks inside it. This is an unnatural sound for any piece of equipment to make.
