3" Trizact 3000 Foam Disc and 3" Backing Plate Question

I made the same mistake when I ordered my Trizact HookitII sanding pads. I ordered the wrong backing plate. I should have ordered the 3M backing plate for them.
I hope that this is the correct backing plate
3M™ Hookit™ II Disc Pad with Adapters, 3m backing plate, sanding disc backing plate

If it isn't please let us know the correct one. I had planned to call Meghan to see about shipping the wrong one back for credit and add the correct one to the Father's Day sale order I will be placing.

So there's no interface pad between the BP and the sanding discs? Is that BP pretty soft? What BP did you order initially?

Please let us know what Autogeek says is the official fix for your problem :) That way we all know.

Still yet to hear anything. I figure Mike might be busy as he always is and will get back to me either today or tomorrow. But yes once I hear I will make sure to post up what the outcome is! :dblthumb2:

Been testing new products all day...

Just got back behind the keyboard and am working on my damp-sanding article...

Hang on let me find out what's going on, I know 3M uses reverse hook-n-loop for some of their product lines...

:)

Here is what I got.

I did not see anywere on the 3m section about a interface pad.

We don't have their interface pads but we do have the Meguiar's interface pads.

Here's the skinny...

There's Hookit
There's Hookit II

You have a Hookit backing plate and Hookit II sanding discs,

The hook-n-loop is reversed on the Hookit II products so you can't cross styles and attach one style to the other style of interface.

We need to get you the right type of sanding discs and the Meguiar's foam interface pad because it's important to have the interface for a less aggressive cut and curves.

I would suggest calling us at 1-800-869-3011 and ask to speak with Dwayne and I'll go bring him up to speed with the issue and you two can work out the details.

How's that?

:)

Here we go now....

On the left hand side is the 3M 3" Hookit Backing Plate and just above it is the Meguiar's 3" Interface Pad, these two items are Hook-n-Loop Compatible. You must use Hookit discs with the Hookit Backing Plate. The Hookit system follows the industry standard for hook-n-loop interfaces.

On the right hand side is the 3M 3" Hookit II Backing Plate, the Meguiar's 3" Interface Pad will not work with this backing plate. You must use Hookit II discs with the Hookit II Backing Plate. The Hook-n-Loop is reversed on this 3M system.

Here you can see the J-Hooks - Note there are different designs of hooks, not just the shape of a "J".

Note: If you've ever noticed over time that your pad and backing plate don't attach as firmly as when they were first new, it's because over time the "hooks" will tend to straighten out from use and thus won't hold the loops as tightly.

Probably more than you ever wanted to know about hook-n-loops... :D

Thats fine. I will give him a call in a few minute's. :dblthumb2:

Mike,
When you say they are reversed do you mean the Hook It has the "rough" side on the backing plate and the "soft" part of the hookit on the discs? If so that strikes me as odd since I'd think it would be detrimental to have the harder of the two parts of the system facing the paint (in case the disc were to slip or whatever the occurrence might be).

So then the HookIt II is reverse of that with the soft part on the BP and the hard part on the discs? (more logical this way)

or do I have it all mistaken? Just trying to understand the 3M system.

*Edit: Nevermind, pictures explain it all.

Thanks Mike!:xyxthumbs:

I'll give Meghan a call this week to find out about exchanging my "LC 40-073 Rotary Flexible backing Plate" for the correct Hookit II plate.

Well just wanted to update everyone, as I said I would. As in Autogeek's fashion got a call back from Dwayne last night, came to a generous deal. Mike filled Dwayne in on everything gave him some options for me. So with that, I will send back the piece I have, but the new one and the interface pad and everything will be golden. So :dblthumb2: for Autogeek as always!
