4" Pad life..Till its clogged

Hey, just curious, how much surface(1/4 CAR, 1/2 CAR, WHOLE CAR) are people getting out of the LCC 4" pads while doing polishing...MEz IP.

I did about a 1/3 of the car witht he pad and it began to clog up and wasnt workign properly...

what does everyone else experience
 
You should really clean them after every panel. I have the 6.5's and if I don't clean them after every panel they do the same thing.
 
When you say clean them do you mean use a dry brush to remove some of the dried residue or to actually use pad cleaner? If you wash with pad cleaner is it safe to let soak, rinse, then give a spin at speed 6 and be ready to go or should it dry completely.

Get some Pinnacle XMT pad cleaner, and clean it...
 
yah but at every panel it gets a bit repetitive using xmt...I have XMT twins....

Its not a amtter of how to clean, simply curious to how fast the little guys are clogging up on everyone

I do a couple of things.. I take a toothbrush that has the rubber fibers on it instead of the nylon, and use it to spur the pad so to speak. I also will run it through a bucket of water with some Dawn Power Dissolver and then some clean water, and run it at high speeds on my rotary to dry.

I need a pad washer LOL
 
Cleaning the pad after every panel? If they are getting clogged up that quick, it seems like that's pretty high maintenance.
 
I do not clean after every panel nor do I get any clogging problems.... sounds like too much product to me. Let's see if anyone else has a better idea of what's going on...
 
With IP you should be able to do 2 panels before the pad is completely caked. With M105 it would be about 1 pad per panel. Remember less = more...use the stuff sparingly and your pads won't get so caked up.
 
I brush the pad when needed, but that is generally after each panel. I switch pads about each 1/3 of the car to a new one. It pays to have multiple pads of each size and color.
 
With the 5.5" pads, I started using about 2 pads/car/product but now I am up to about 4 pads/car/product on average depnding on how much work is really needed.
 
Every other panel or so I take a towel and hold it agaist the pad while I spin it. This seems to keep it pretty clean if it did get clogged up. usually I use 3-5 4" pads on a medium size car.
 
Im currently using 4-6 of the 4" pads per vehicle, they do clog pretty quick, or maybe I use too much product
 
Holy crap.
I am about to get my PC kit tomorrow.... but had no idea you would have to switch pads so often per product....
In none of the reading I have done, until now, had I heard of this.
I guess a few more pads and some pad brushes are in my near future...?

As I have gained experience, I think 4 pads minimum of a specific polishing pad is a good start. Every time I skimp on using an extra pad or two, I regret it since I do not like the results after I am done.

You can usually find 5 pad bundle price so you get 5 pads for the price of 4.

I am asking Santa for some more. They make nice stocking stuffers.
