After I showed a collegue at work some pics of what I had done to my truck, he asked me how much I'd charge to do his Lexus SC400. I told him $50 without thinking of it, and now I need to stick to my price.

If someone was to offer you $50 to detail their car, to what extend would you detail it? And how much time would you put into it?

vac, windows, wash, dry, throw a quick coat of wax on, wheels, tires, dressing for tires....that is about it............
No paint correction or stain removal...

The hood is pretty messed up, I was thinking of at least doing some SSR2.5, SSR1 action on it.

I guess that's overboard?

I would do as if I was getting paid $200, with the hopes he would tell some family and friends and I would get some business out of it. Also I would swear him to secrecy on the price he paid!!

I would go the extra mile and let him know that you did.

That's a good point. I'm not looking to start a business, but wouldn't mind doing one car on a Saturday morning or so. It's an easy way to put some extra $$$ in the pocket!

Extra dollars to spend on more products!

No kidding! If I can come up with another $100, then I'd be able to buy the E2K kit! I've been eyeing it for a while now...

I offered to do a mini van Ext/Int $100.00 did the van for 2 days i commited to the price did the job, then i did her care takers new VW int/ext $25.00 one i did for it the practice 2 i did to use my products.its the last time. Y

esterday they both asked to have the cars done i told her it wasnt a good time. the lady in the mini van gave me a sob story how broke she was after having the ext of the house painted and a new fence put in. Even if i wanted i dont have the energy to do it all over again.

Its you call a wash and a wax is sufficient dont count on a refferal unless you wanna do another $ 50.00 detail

BINGO!

P1et.. take this mans advice. This could be your break... youll be really surprised at how much money you can make detailing cars with only a good word of mouth.

FWIW.. if I was to detail the car you mentioned, exterior only with corrections, I would charge at least $150.

I was thinking the same thing although possibly to not "set a precedent" offer to do it for free or make sure the $50 or so is "just for products" pricing.....
Word of mouth is key... at my job people are asking and commenting all the time about my cars..... Im sure one day I'll "get a bite" to do it for someone.....

A few questions for you......
1. When do you plan on doing this detail????
2. You ARE located in Austin, correct?
3. Have you used the Edge pads yet?

Why am I asking all of these questions? LOL, Well.......
I was gonna say, If you would like me to come down and help out, I can try to be there, depending on the day. I will also bring my Edge pads for you to try out. If you would like......
I will be out of town this weekend to Houston....
Let me know!

I would use a coat of cleaner wax, like Meguiar's cleaner wax for that kind of detail. It will reduce some swirls on hood. You could go with Poorboy's route if your customer is willing to pay more.
