54 steps?

To me the price sounds about right... but everyone's prices vary depending on their market.

They know how to sell their products, to be honest with you that's all there is to that. We know how to sell our services and man I know a lot people here can do all that easily for 1K to 2K. Yes it all depends on you and if you are big like they are, (Helping hands with co workers) you need to raise the price. Now I do respect Paul a lot, he is a detail freak and he is the best out there. Only people with a lot money and whom likes to show that they have money to spend would do something like that. For me, I don't care how many steps you have listed, when it comes down to detailing a car there is only one step and one step only, ( The right way ) no shortcut.

This is always comes up whenever Paul Dalton's business is mentioned. My take is, he does very, very good work, and he's also been successful at marketing himself to the highest-end clientèle - more power to him. I guess if you have issues with the way he sells himself or his business, you can always send him a PM - he posts here every now and then.

Does the service come with an expensive bottle of aged wine? So I can get hammered at the money I just dropped.

People that can afford exotic cars can afford $8K "details". The steps provided are that of fully restoring an old beat up classic car with severely deffected paint. Not a garage queen that never gets driven.

But hey if his customers are willing and have money to blow, more power to him! :)

If I could get the MARKET of people that WANT to spend that much money on a detail like Paul is getting. I wouldn't hesitate to charge that much either. These people want to pay that much to have their luxury cars detailed. Gives them a sense of entitlement.
Props Paul to making the absolute most of it!

You're rght. But even the rich people i know would laugh at me.

Paul Dalton is without any doubt a top-notch detailer and has built such a reputation in the UK (and worldwide) that most exotic cars owners think primarily of him when they want to pamper their cars.

So, he has got the "power" to charge whatever he establishes to be the "fair" price for his work (I am sure he knows perfectly the elasticity of his demand...). In the US you have some detailers that have almost the same status: Todd Copperider comes to my mind - go check his fees...

Paul is also a shrewd business man: he has been able to associate him-self with a lot of brands - Zymol, Swissvax, 3M, Rupes (Why do you think there is so much talk about Rupes right now? In Europe it's him who is promoting the brand; in the US is KB and TC)...and get the rewards for it.

It would be interesting to know Paul's early history. I know he was a polisher in a BMW shop early on. This is probably where he honed his amazing talents with a rotary. And more importantly where created a reference point to get people to trust him on very high priced cars when he was starting out on his own. There are many super exotic cars in Birmingham AL. You just don't walk up to them and say "Hey I'd like to work on your 350K Ferrari. I've only worked on Toyota Camry's, but you can trust me buddy. And if I screw it up, it should only cost you 50K to have it resprayed. And I will only charge you 5K to do it. So we'll see you Saturday then?"

I tried to laugh because this was hilarious, and then I realized that I know hack jobs like this that exist....
