7424 is shocking me (literally)

This stinks. I bought it two years ago, got really ill and used it once. Finally recovered, out there trying to work on my car..it's shocked me twice. the first one made me say...hey! The second one made me say ah..man.

Also what level of vibration is normal when using speed 6? How hot should this thing get?

Other relevant info potentially.

Just installed a lc 5.5" backing plate using the 6.5 pads
Using an extension cord meant for outdoors, no frays, etc.

It's warm here...maybe 80-82 degrees in the garage.

Bummed..can't afford a new one now. Anything known to cause this? Bcking plate? Pads? My install of either?

I'd take it to a Black&Decker service center and have it gone over. Electrical problems like that can be deadly in the wrong conditions. Do you have any experience at power tool repair? Sounds to me like a short circuit in the cord or speed controller. Maybe open the cover and look for any exposed wires and repair replace the cord if in fact that is the problem. Whatever you do I'd be sure to be using a grounded cord.
 
I would stop using that until it gets serviced. Seriously.

Also if you do not have GFCI in your garage, it would be a good investment.

As for vibration, switch down to the 5.5'' pads and you won't have issues. I think 6.5 is way too big on the PC.

Unfortunately switching down is not possible now, I JUST bought 6 pads for this prep, it has to work for now, no more money to go into it :/

I'm an IT guy so I can have a poke round inside, no worries.

Appreciate the advice, just wondering if maybe it was something stupid I did (apparently getting ads too large :/, though I thought many people did the larger pads).
 
Tuscarora Dave and LegacyGT have the right idea. You really need to have it serviced. That's a must. A short circuit in a power tool can mean a short life. You could check it out yourself if you are competent with electricty, if not see a professional.

just replace the power cord. I have to do it all the time. well my workers give me sh-t till i do it lol make sure the growned is not hitting the side of the tool and dont have any wire showing on the inside of the tool
 
its funny if you guys would see me standing in the water with my buffer and cord on my raft with all by stuff to get all the way down on boats on a lift. lol but do have a gfi to plug in to . I tell them this is y you are giving me a BIG TIP.
