I just got this 85 Corvette into the shop last night. I have never worked on a corvette before and I know these have fiberglass bodies and I am wanting to know if there are any special steps I need to take in caring for this car vs all the other non-fiberglass cars I have worked on in the past? I'll be polishing it out with my PCXP.

I have not got a real good look at the car yet since I did not receive it until late last night, however I did notice what looks like some cracks in the paint on the top of the rear body panel that houses the rear tail lights. I also noticed the same thing on the top of the front nose piece as well. I have not got a real good look at the rest of the car yet.

Any tips for this car?

Thanks.

There is nothing different needed for polishing the paint on the corvette than any other car IMO. The cracking you describe is something I see a lot on the older C4s. The front and rear bumper covers are plastic and really pretty flexible. So, those two areas require a flex agent to be put into the paint prior to paint application to keep the paint flexible and prevent cracking. On these C4s, over time it isn't uncommon to see these cracks form, especially if the area was repainted at sometime and not prepped perfectly.

Yea, I realize the polishing process will more than likely be the same. Paint is paint, but I was just wondering if any special care needed to be taken in any particular areas. For example I have read that the rear portion is a rubber type base material and heats up quicker and some have had problems and damaged the paint in that area while buffing.

Is it safe to use the PCXP over thise cracked area without damaging anything?
