This car also belongs to someone I work with. It has had some paint work done to it, and the BIG challenge on this one was all the chips in the hood. The owner had asked me what to do, so I suggested that he fill them in with touch up paint so they could harden before I got my hands on it. Well, when it showed up, the hood had SO MANY spots from the touch up, it reminded me of a 13 year old boy in DIRE need of some benzoyl peroxide!! Zit city, baby! You can see the pic with the terry towel on the hood-look at all the paint on it! Otherwise, it was ok for its age. It gets stored in the winter, so it's pretty nice, although it did need correction. I used a wool pad for this one too. I used a combination of wet sanding and Langka for the touch up levelling. There is a learning curve to the Langka, and I was getting pretty good at it after a while. You gotta play with the pressure you use, though. This car, like the Infi G35, got DG 501 with a foam (gray in this case) pad after using the compound. I used my new X3 polish with wool, followed by it using foam (white). I like this stuff. The car also had recently been oil sprayed which was all over the paint too. To solve that, I foamed 1st and then applied the wash soap directly to the wash mitt for each panel...viola. The PDR guy came by on this one too. The headlights also got SIP with foam, DG plastic lens cleaner with foam too.

THE PROCESS:

Wheels/Tires:
SC on wheels
ARO on Tires
Wells got Fantastic
Wells subsequently treated with Adams US
Wheels cleaned with DG 501 and sealed with JS 109
Tires with DP gel

PAINT:
Foam with Gilmour
2 bucket wash with direct apply soap
Clay with Riccardo
Wet sanding
Langka spot correction (2 hours just to do hood)
X3 with rotary and wool
X3 with rotary and white foam
DG 501 with rotary and gray foam
DG 601 by hand
DG 105 applied/removed by hand
AW after curing

EXTERIOR:
Chrome exhaust tips with Megs WB followed by Blue Magic
Trim done with DP tire gel
Glass with IG
Headlight lens with SIP and DG plastic lens cleaner

INTERIOR:
Mats washed and treated with Tire spray
Carpet spot treated with Folex and then steam cleaned
Seats got 303 Aerospace
Trim panels cleaned with Woolite:water
Trim panels treated with 303

im sorry forgive me but what does AW stand for again?

Nice job Richy. Awesome job on the trim, nice and black.

You really did a great job. That red paint pops out at you and the trim and wheels look fresh and crisp. Your friend owes you big time for that fantastic turn around.

Nice work Richy !
Any close ups of the chip repair ?
BTW, received no reply back from 303. (looks like the cleaner was just renamed).

The car looks great. The touch up is incredible before to after. Thanks for the tips on Langka.

Rsurfer..thank you very much...I was happy with the trim (I had used the DP tire gel on my own trim and really liked the result).

killrflake..thanks a bunch..I am impressed with what the DG 501 did to the red! It also did a nice job on the wheels.

Thanks Bruce..I screwed up there..no close ups. You gotta get within a few inchs to see any evidence of the work. BTW, I'm surprised at 303 not getting back to you..that's disappointing. As long as they're not discontinuing the cleaner, that's what really counts I guess.

Came out very nice!
Thanks supercharged!

Thank you Jimmie. I'm diggin the langka..it just needs time for the touch up to dry completely..a time better measured in days than hours. It can be too aggressive in how much paint it removes otherwise.

do you have any up close before/after pics of the chips?
Danny..I don't have any of the chips before they were touched up. The following pic (you really have to look hard) you can see the touch up areas. It didn't photograph well unfortunately. The shot of the hood with the wet sanding clearly shows all the wet sand marks. The spots that got Langka you obviously (hopefully!!) can't see but you can see all the red marks on hte baby diapers where it was used. For fun, there had to be 50 spots. I was 2 hours just on wet sanding and Langka repair. It came out beautifully though, so it was worth it. The 1st pic is the repair, the 2nd the before.

I like the idea of using DP tire gel on trim! Thanks! I'll give it a try!

Thanks Sparkie..I was really impressed with the effect DG 501 had on the paint.
Richy is the man, learned some really good stuff from him a few years ago, hope you are doing well Richy :)

Thanks Lou! I am slowly getting better. My voice is still very weak but is better than before and I'm coughing much less. Thanks for your concern!!

Nice work. Really doesn't look like a 9 year old car.
Thanks bud!
